Please share your experience about racing on the IRONMAN 70.3 Luxembourg course for steep grades and for how long. What is your recommended gearing? And what road conditions should be expected?
I raced there in 2022.
Great course. Start and finish is at the river, so fast and furious. The climbs are “power” climbs, nothing too long. Course is definitely something for bigger and stronger riders.
Think I averaged 37kph for 270W NP, so quite fast even with the elevation.
Great roads, nice and smooth. Did almost everything on the big ring, so no worries about gearing. You’ll be fine, the steeper parts are quite short so you can push through (maybe there you’ll use the inner ring).
Run course is flat and a lot of straights. Was 35 degrees C in 2022, so a lot of carnage on the roads with no shade whatsoever. But in normal conditions, should be plenty fast.
Enjoy, it’s a nice race!
Great info. Thanks for all the details. Looking forward to it.
