Ironman 70.3 Austin, TX Bike Course

Computrainer does not have the Ironman 70.3 Austin, TX bike course yet. They told me that if I could find a .gpx file of it, they could convert it. Does anyone have this file, or any idea where i could get it from?

Mapmyride.com has it

I can see if I can dig up mine. Course does not have any major hills, but is not exactly flat, hardest part can be sun, lack of coverage on the back part of the course, and for me, use to riding on asphalt here in the North East, I found the road surface “annoying” To call it riding on cobblestones is an obvious exaggeration, but gives a sense.

If you are traveling and boxing your bike, be sure to check all of the bolts, especially ones you may not pay as much attention to like on the water bottle cages depending on your set up. I had the Profile Design double, which has a bolt that is tucked in between the two cages that allows you to adjust the angle, and also requires a longer Allen Wrench to really reach… The vibrations on the ride loosened this up on me and luckily I felt my bottle position changing on the reach back.

Still double check your bolts, constant vibration on the roads.

I have mine from last year. Pm your e-mail address.

Researching Austin 70.3 bike course, does anyone know if the same bike course will be used as last year? I am concerned about the race reports from last year of rough roads / borderline cobblestone. Kinda still a newbie and dont want to suffer thru a miserable ride b/c of road type. (it will be challenging enough doing 56 in the potential heat, this is my 2nd 70.3) Thx in advance.

I rode it yesterday. The roads really aren’t that bad. There is a stretch in the second half that is chip seal and a bit annoying, but I think annoying is really the best word for it…it didn’t ruin my ride or make me concerned about the race. The roads on the first half are just fine. There are some large cracks that run with the direction of the road, so watch for those, but they seem easy to avoid.

I didn’t necessarily enjoy the course, but it wasn’t the roads that bothered me, it was more the relentless wind. Not much to block the wind in those parts. I was just in town for business so I don’t know if that wind was typical or just a front moving through. I’m hoping for the latter.

same question a year later. anyone have a computrainer file for the austin 70.3 course? my few google searches we not very successful and did not see anything on the racemate website.

thanks in advance

The road conditions on the bike course are absolutely horrendous. My advice if you haven’t already registered and spent your money would be to look elsewhere for a race. The bike course is really that bad.

x2 - Hated the bike course. Saw a dozen flats out of T1 in the first 2 miles. And the back half was brutal on carbon fiber wheels with the vibration.

If you are traveling, be sure to double check all your bolts, and use loc-tite on some. I had thought I had done a decent job on my profile design cage on my rear seat, but it had rattled loose and I had to keep tightening it. That center bolt was a real pain with a bike bag tool allen wrench… needed longer.
