I have never been an Iron Maiden fan, but they sure know how to decorate a plane, especially the vertical stabilizer (the tail). That said, seems like a big machine for just one band …
Ed Force One!
I’m a huge IM fan. The singer, Bruce Dickinson, is quite the Renaissance Man and in addition to his heavy metal vocal chops he’s an airline pilot.
This 747 has been decommissioned and is being cut into pieces and sold off.
Maybe they are like The Eagles. On their last few tours, they hated each other and all had separate buses. They would walk off stage to their respective buses and not interact. If you look inside that plane, maybe it’s cordoned off into separate areas for each guy???
Nico McBain in my opinion in the modern era, along with Stan Lynch of TP and the Heartbreakers got the most amazing amount of performance and sound from a couple of the most understated drum kits.
The Steelers were using a little A319?
Nico is insane on that kit. I was fortunate enough to catch the last IM show in the US with Nico on the drums (last November in San Antonio, TX).
As technically proficient as Nicko is, I just think Clive Burr had that magic “feel”. So first three albums for me (2015 Remasters), with the debut album in the lead…so much menace and agression.
Saw them live in 1980 or 1981 at Hammersmith Apollo in London, with D’Annio on vocals. They were amazing. First two albums are the best for me, after Dickinson joined they went away from their East End roots and were less “punk”.
Yes, Steve Harris is famous for his taking exception to being labelled “punk” in the early days. And yes, after the early Bruce Dickinson stuff e.g. "Powerslave’ onwards, they seemed to head off into being a career rock band, rather than having anything to say. On a side note, Dave Murray is underrated in my book.

I LOVE Dave Murray.
I’m absolutely amazed how he and Adrian Smith can write 100s of guitar solos that all sound creative and unique in their own way, and then another song comes out with yet another pair of great solos.
(take notes on how not to phone it in, Hammet!)

I looked it up a few years ago, it was a stock 747 they leased, I was so disappointed, you’d think with their money they’ d have a sweet custom interior. Lol
Indeed, so many memorable solos, which is ultimately what counts. Speed…nah. Technicality…nah. Is it memorable? Does it add something to the track/a new layer? Does it take the track in a new direction? Does it add another level of emotion?
Though on the other hand, a solo can be memorable, yet bad…c.f. Shoplifters of The World Unite / Goodbye To Love.
I think it’s left as stock because the entire crew flies in this plane. This isn’t a case of the rock stars fly to the next city in luxury while the crew all cram into busses and spend the entire day driving to the next show.
ETA: If I remember “Flight 666” correctly, they did have to drop a chunk of coin to upgrade the cargo hold to accommodate all the equipment.
