Iq2 Power Meter Released

Looks like the iq2 power meter is now officially available on their website. €249 for dual sided stainless steel or €349 for dual sided titanium.

Did anyone take the plunge on indiegogo and receive theirs?

If this thing is fairly accurate/consistent in power measurement, I’m definitely grabbing a set. This is the right price point for a power meter for me.

Oh man, that’s certainly an attractive price. I’ll have to check into this.

I have ordered from
Indiegogo, but have not received them. Their own testing seems really good. Sound like mid-February. They have been excellent at keeping us up to date with their process.

It’s still pre-order on the website. But good to keep an eye on.

32mm increase in q-factor…holy f#$@!!!

Nope. No updates on their Kickstarter page (they’ve been pretty good with communication over there). And I personally wouldn’t touch one until we’ve seen the real data. Well, I’m hoping to touch one to get the data… but you know what I mean.

Yeah that’s a problem for sure but they’re talking about making custom spindles for popular pedals and I see no reason why that isn’t a workable solution.

Yeah, that’s a lot. There’s apparently no free lunch in power meters. There’s always a tradeoff.

16mm per side? Hmmm. I’ve the cleats slammed all the way out (wide stance). Moving them in should reduce 16mm to about 8mm. That might work…

I’m not sure what to make of q factor increase. I come from mountain biking, so I am guessing it won’t bother me, but I have no idea.

I’m with you. If they are smart they will get one of their first production sets to DCR. I did a web chat with them today and they sent me their return policy. Looks like you can not return them if you use them and they are inaccurate. They said they would replace them within the 2 year warranty if they are faulty.

They said they would start shipping orders placed on their website in March. I guess I’ll stay on the wait and see bus for now.

It can make a large negative impact on aerodynamics.

I don’t think the whole problem (or even much of it) can be fixed with custom spindles as there’s usually not a lot of space between the shoe and the crank arm to begin with. And would they be asking customers to replace the spindles on their pedals? Or would they sell pedals with their spindles? One would add some cost and installation procedures many users are not capable of. The other may add significant cost.

I think it’s a workable approach. Here’s a picture of a prototype DA pedal. You have to remember that the iq2 power meter itself basically acts as a spindle extension of sorts which brings things back to normal in terms of crank arm/shoe/cleat relations. I’ve never fiddled with a spindle on a Shimano pedal but I can tell you that changing spindles on a Speedplay pedal is super easy.

But the iq2 also acts as a significant “crank thickener” for about the last 5cm of the crank. If you’re already tight with that part of the crank (as I am with 50mm Speedplay spindles), then shortening by 16mm to maintain Q-factor isn’t really an option. I might get away with 5mm.

Edit: But I might try these on gravel bike, which has no PM at the moment, and where I don’t care about aero.

Right, and there’s currently no pedal based power meter for SPD pedals. If I’m being honest I spend way more time on SPD pedals than on my Speedplays.

I don’t think that is the case. From what i heard yesterday this is another buying round and product release is at least a year away. But this was from someone who spoke to a previous teammember. Yes, they sponsor a team without having shipped any product and the team seem to be fallen apart even before it even really started. But as said this is from hear say…

Their web site states they are shipping in March 2019.

I’m in the wait and see camp. Wait for DCRM review.

This week news on a dutch triathlon site https://3athlon.nl/iqsquare-slaat-andere-weg-in-teammanager-weggestuurd-aantal-atleten-uit-ploeg-en-huis-hillegom-verleden-tijd/?fbclid=IwAR2wFuTjWag3cwvnUo1j8_Kv1NBQzU73pe4bHXJX_A37iIcFrc6bZzBr91E

Basically its says that they re-organized the team they sponsored. I think indeed it will take some months before they have a solid ready to ship product.

This is definitely a wait and see product.
