I have most of the music I like on my ipod and my desk top is about to die and I want to put my ipod music onto my laptop, appreciate a how to. Thanks.
are you using itunes?
Yes but I don’t like the fact you can’t go from a desktop to your laptap? Thanks.
Burn a CD-ROM of the music files to transfer them. Or use a JumpDrive, or a Zip drive or link the two computers, or use the iPod as a portable hard drive (just like the JumpDrive). Use iTunes on your laptop to import the songs into its folder. Any song you downloaded from the iTunes Music Store, you’ll need to authorize - no big deal, it’ll prompt you when you try to play it.
It’s actually pretty easy.
All you need to do is copy all of the folders from under your iTunes directory.
C:\My Documents\Music\iTunes Library on Windows (or something like that)
or
Music\iTunes on a Mac
Besides all of the folders for each band there’s another file called iTunes Library that contains all of your playlists and stuff.
If you just dump the folders into the correct location on another iTunes , then all you have to do is import them. Import the other data file I mentioned above and your playlists will come across as well.
Whallah.
I actually keep a backup of my iTunes library on my ipod just in case something should happen to my Powerbook.
