Iphone tethering app

There is an iPhone tethering app in the app store, called “iTether”, it costs a 1 time 14.99 and works over USB.

I have bought and tested it, it works. this is way cheaper than a carriers tethering plan.

Thanks. Im going to get it. Ive been considering tethering, but couldn’t justify the cost. I have unlimitted data, so this is definitely $14.99 well spent.

Check your plan with regard to tethering. I have unlimited data as well, but my contract specifically excludes tethering.

You probably want to double check with your carrier if you can do tethering, unless the app does not allow the carrier you have enabled tethering with this app?
If you carrier detects it, they might charge you.

I think ATT policy is to send you a warning if they detect it. Then restrict that IP on your account. I won’t use it much or regularly. So I’ll take my chances.

There’s 2 types of tethering: official and unofficial.

  1. Official: Most carriers charge a fee for the official tethering ability and just eats up your allowance each month
  2. Unofficial: Usually on “jailbroken” phones where an unapproved app/program allows tethering. This cannot be detected directly by the carrier, apart from maybe excessive use of your data. Sprint is supposedly the only carrier that does not slow down your speeds if excessive use is detected.

I tether ALOT. In fact, I disconnected my home cable and just tether from my iPhone. Last 2 months I’ve used over 4gb of data from tethering(bulk comes from streaming movies and such)

Consider yourself lucky to have gotten a copy, as it now appears to have been pulled from the App Store.

Yup, it is gone. No, I didn’t report it

As I was downloading it I wondered how it was available. Figured it had to make the carriers angry and was surprised apple let it go.

I’m glad I got it when I could.

When they got to number 1 on the gross list and number 2 (at least this morning when I checked) on the paid list, I knew it would not last long.

apple accusing the company of bait and switch with the ap.

I just read that computerworld link- does the app require installation of a program on the to-be-tethered device? And only done via direct USB cable connection? If so that sucks. Just jailbreak your iPhone and enjoy wireless and programless wifi hotspot. Anyone can join(I’ve had 3 devices join all at once) and it’s basically and on/off tab on my phone.

after getting the ap today and reading about it I looked into jailbreaking my iPhone. I’m tempted to… maybe I’ll try my old backup iPhone first. it doesn’t sound hard to do, but the whole ‘breaking’ thing has me scared
