Hello! I just started with Invisalign (clear tray type braces - water only while wearing, take out for food then brush teeth before back in- 20hours a day they need to be worn). I am now trying to figure out how to fuel for long training days and for my half iron Tri coming up in a few weeks. Normally, I use Huma gels and Vitamin water (no sugar) - for long rides. However, for a half iron, I eat at least one power bar. Trying to decide the lesser of two evils- take them out for the race or keep them in and intake liquid/gel and possibly something soft to eat? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I’ve had Invisalign but never had to race a long event during my treatment. I would say try to use liquid only during long rides and runs keeping them in but if you want to take them out for an extended period once a week you’d be fine. Talk to your dentist too
I’m a dentist, and have been doing Invisalign cases for at least the last 10 of 25 years of practice.
I’ve also done Invisalign on my own teeth.
I’d take the aligners out for your race. Simply add an extra day to your cycle for said aligner, which honestly, is being overly cautious. Don’t sweat it, you won’t screw up your progress…just put the aligners in their case when not wearing, so you don’t lose them.
Good luck in your race!
I am not a dentist. I wore invisaligns a while back. And yes I’d take them off for the races. They were a little tight to put back in after a day of not wearing but that’s about it. It was barely noticeable.
Thank you!
