Thanks for everyone and their great suggestions for my bike fitting. I’m making the transition into IM distance from short-course. As I said before, cycling is my main limiter and I’ve learned so much from all of you. Thanks for sharing.
Sweet - nice job, definitely one of the better PR interviews that I have read - by the gods the man seems personable and everything!
One question I would have loved to hear though: what the hell are they putting in our Canadian water and why am I not getting any of it here in Vancouver? I mean our tri runners are inhuman: Peter, Lori, and Lisa Bentley in particular…
I met Peter this past summer, literally, after he crossed the finish line. My gf and I travelled to watch him compete, and she nudged me to introduce myself. I felt akward, because he was still recovering but he was the nicest guy. He asked me about my background, I told him I’ve been racing short-course and he said, “You gotta do IM! You’re going to do it, right?!” Of course, once the guy you respect most (him and Deboom are both my role models of the sport) encourages you-I have to give it a try! I’m training for my first IM this year.
Canada produces such elite professionals, it’s awesome. Including to your list, Gordo Byrn and Tom Evans.
I never know if I should include Gordo or not in a list of Canadian tri wonders… Is he Canadian, US American, or a Kiwi? - not sure if Gordo himself knows or cares at this point.
only in triathlon does a pro of pr’s stature get the “hey great race i am a big fan of yours can you sign my water bottle?” routine as he is trying to catch his breath from racing hard for many hours. a classy guy though in all respects and my favorite athlete of all.
and i cannot believe he isnt with lori!! NAW!!! say it isnt sooooo… they are like me my favoriteeeeeee iron couple…i am sooo bummmmmed.
I generally like Peter and have followed his career since 1998, but after having heard his victory speach after Kona 2000, I was left with a bit of a bad taste in my mouth from his self serving speach. I admire his abilities and training ethic, but I’ll bet he’s impossible to live with when things (his training) aren’t going well.
Actually there was some guy on the trinewbies forum using the same handle and trying to sell a pyramid scheme. I confess to not being that guy. Eventually he got turfed.
I had posted over there a half dozen times under the handle “slowfella”, but after that big flare up we had over here after I commented on some of their posts, I’ve never been back there except to lurk once in awhile.
