Interlochen Tri - Lodging

Hey MI triathletes,

I’m hoping to do the Interlochen tri for the first time this year. I know this area is a tourist trap during the summer montsh so I want to get lodging sqaured away before I even think about entering the race.

Does anybody here who has done or is doing the race have any recommendations for lodging either near the camp or in TC?

The website basically says that most hotels in the TC area book 1 year in advance (not for the tri, just in general) and is otherwise not very helpful.

Any ideas or advice would be welcome.

Damn - I didn’t even know they had a tri there! Used to be a dance student there and can still conjure up how the woods smell (good). Maybe I’ll aim for this next year.

Thanks for the heads up.

Depending on where you are coming from, look at Cadillac. Coming from SE Michigan, it’s a nice place to stop. The Holiday Inn Express is pretty nice, and there is a decent restaurant on the water. It’s probably less than an hour away from the race, and not a bad drive in the morning.

Hmm.

I never considered that.

I’ll be coming from the south and passing through Cadillac on the way. I’ll check it out.

Thanks.

I’m an Illinois triathlete - but I have been vacationing near TC for years…

I was also going to recommend Cadillac.

You should also check out this web site for accommodations.

Also do some google searches on the small towns around the area. Most of them are vacation spots, and will have some level of accommodations.

I’m also doing the race - my vacation just happend to overlap this year.

See you there!

There are some newer hotels on the south side of TC near chum corners that are like Hampton Inns, Farifield Inns, etc. That puts you 10 or 15 minutes away from the start. I think 3D also has some hotels listed.

If it is during the Cherry Festival or the hotel is on the water, it may be booked out a year, however, you should be able to find a room away from the lake in the area I mentioned no problem. Two years ago we were going and decided Saturday afternoon to get some rooms instead of driving down Sunday morning and found three in one hotel.

Last year we stayed at ECONO LODGE Traverse City - an easy 15 minutes (<10 miles) from the race site.

We booked it late (3-4 days prior) and found other INTERLOCHEN TRI participants staying there.

The hotel is on M37 S at the intersection w/ M31 which takes you right to INTERLOCHEN.

Good luck!

If you are into camping Interlochen state park is directly across the street from the camp.

nice marriott courtyard on 31 south near the mall. about 20 min from interlochen. the big water park is right there, too. stay on tc’s south side, though and save 10-15 travel minutes in the a.m. plus, less noisey.

Don’t listen to anything Pinchflat says, he is an idiot.

I unfortunately stayed with him two years ago, worst damn night of my life.

Man does Pinchflat suck.
