Magnets that hold your shoe laces together (no tying needed, WIDE opening to step into shoes.) This may work for lace-up cycling shoes in a race attached to the bike. Skeptical if the magnet will hold up to cycling forces. Not sure how comfortable they would be. For running, they don’t seem to offer much over elastic “lock” laces IMO.
The problem I see is in their own video. The magnets are made to come apart when you lift your foot against the top of your shoe. I get that they say that you need to apply equal pressure on the heel, but I would not want to be on a long run & have my lace magnets come undone because I have a bit more forward lean in my shoes going up a hill.
For casual shoe wearers, these look fine. For runners, I see no benefit of these over elastic laces like Lock Laces or Yankz.
Ouch. $20 a pair?
The most intriguing part to me was when they clipped the shoes to the fridge. While that is pretty gross, I could envision a new shoe rack that would be pretty cool.
Perhaps I’d be willing at a quarter the price…so I need everyone else to buy them to drive down production costs.
I can see Teenagers loving it, but not really secure enough for any sport
.
I went in for a pair, mostly to see how they would be, but yeah, not for running.
they need to rename them PowerZubits, and then get Ben Greenfield to report that they impart magical properties, allowing you to run or pedal 2.3% faster than with regular shoe laces.
