I was wondering about people’s experiences with bikes with integrated hydration in the frameset. Do you like it, not like it, indifferent? Specifically in regards to the new Canyon, Scott Plasma 6 or any others I’m unaware about. Currently have a Cervelo P5D which has been great but it’s the end of the season and I don’t have much to do except look all over the internet at stuff I shouldn’t even contemplate buying.
i got an wilier turbine that have “semi-integrated” profile design aeria storage. To be honest sometime i remove it mainly because i was bored to empty the water on it (water feel not good when you let him on this plastic storage lot of days …). For training i mainly use BTA instead like in your cervelo.
I use the profile design aeria on race-day but i’m not so sure that it’s lot more aero that a basic BTA
Was pretty interested if someone with full integrated system has some feedback about it for daily training usage ?
I have a 2015ish specialized shiv that has an internal bladder. I find the integrated bladder works ok. I fill it up in transition and it’s nice to have the drink tube right there while in aero. It becomes a pain when it’s time to refill. You have to do so slowly and it’s not easy to do while moving. I basically have began to not even attempt to refill it and just opt to drink from bottles once the bladder is empty.
I designed an adapter box to fit a Specialized Shiv Fuelselage bladder/Canyon bladder in the Cervelo P3X, P5X. PX frame.

Love my Ventum for long course.
Super easy to refill on the fly, remove and clean.
I had a Shiv with the integrated bladder. If you packed the bladder into the frame really carefully, it’s possible to empty a sport lid (like a bike bottle) bottle into the bladder with just a few squirts. I found you could fill it in the time it would take to ride slowly through an IM aid station. I really liked it, but in general would only fill it with water to avoid dumping sugary crap into the frame. The other thing is that the valve provided by specialized was crap in that it wasn’t actually a valve and would let the water drain back into the bladder, so you have to replace it with a camelback valve. I’m no longer on that bike, and find that the torpedo BTA that I have now is easier to use, easier to clean, and can be filled with all the sugary drinks I want.
Interesting… Do you think integrated hydration is ‘worth it’, or not really all the hype it’s setup to be?
I’ve self designed a bladder for my Dimond which holds around 1.5l (small frame). I’ve made it ‘refillable’ and have used it both as primary fuel/liquid as well as concentrated mix with water BTA. I enjoy being able to carry my own mix and between that and two bottles (BTS/BTA) I can get away without stopping on a 70.3 and minimal ‘water only’ stops for a full. Takes a lot of stress out of racing when I dont have to worry about what is on course or how often/when I’ll see aid stations.

I’ll answer your question - to me, it’s totally worth it. I use it in combination with my bta bottle. I fill up the bladder with water and make a concentrated bottle of nutrition bta. I sip on the bta bottle and drink the water, refilling it at aid stations. It will hold around a full bottle. For me, when it’s gone, I’ll know I’m on top of my liquids.

This is how I run mine as well. Water goes into the frame bladder and I run my concentrated nutrition in a Profile Design Aerodrink 880 BTA system. Both straws are right in your view while in aero so it’s hard to forget to drink.
If my Shiv bladder was easier to refill once empty, then it would be a perfect set-up.
How concentrated do you go? Is it 2x,3x even 4x concentrated?
Thx
Not who you responded to, but I’ll answer anyway. I follow the recipe suggested here by Dr. Alex Harrison:
1.25 Cups of table sugar
1 scoop of gatorade powder
2 tsp of sodium citrate
Caffeine as desired
This is usually enough to get me through 3 hours on the bike. I can hit around 110g of carbs per hours using this drink solution and the occasional banana.
I absolutely love it on the Canyon Speedmax CF SLX. In fact, I wouldn’t buy another bike that doesn’t have something similar.
I have just installed on my Cervelo PX the custom pack created by Yann that you can find in this forum (btw, terrific work Yann!) with the Hydrapack bladder that Canyon uses.
Do you have issues in refilling as well? I find that thw pressure required to push down the valve is always closing my BTA. I need to stop and use two hands to refill, is it only me?

I use Yann’s system on my PX and wouldn’t be without it. Love having the straw right in front of me and no ejections.
