Recovering from a navicular stress reaction (my 3rd in 2 years) and was wondering if people have any recommendations on orthotics to go in my running shoes. Not running yet, but think they’d be helpful in my recovery.
I had the green Superfeet in my running shoes back when I got hurt. I’ve heard the copper ones are also good, as well as something called Footbalance.
I have relatively high arches and issues with my accessory navicular. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
If you have had 3 stress reactions/fractures in 2 years, an accessory navicular and are a runner you should probably be asking your treating specialist about this, not some OTC type device(s). In addition, if you have “high arches” then you are less likely to benefit anyway (though not always the case).
Thank you – to clarify, I was fit for custom orthotics but my insurance wouldn’t cover it, so I bailed and asked him what his thoughts were for something OTC.
The doc who fit me for the customs recommended the superfeet coppers as an OTC solution, and one of my other doctors who’s been treating me had recommended Footbalance because they’re somewhat customize-able.
Totally hear you on the high arch issue, probably a contributing factor to the original issues.
In that case ($ issues I guess). I would recommend a Sole OTC orthotic. They have a pretty high medial flange that tends to fit high arched people better (they are heat moldable for others, but you likely won’t need to). You can get them online or all over.
This model should work well - you can see how “high” they are as well and are inexpensive at $45
