Infinit?

Im Wisconsin coming up in 3 mos. I’ve recently heard about INFINIT nutrition systems, which appear to be customized nutrition. Can anybody give me some feedback on this??? Taste?? etc. Flavor recommendations?? I am a very heavy sweater, lots of salt on clothing, etc, and have had problems with muscle cramping. I Never have GI issues!! Thanks

Check out their website. It actually has a questionaire that you can fill out to design your own, custom blend. It asks questions like your size, how much you sweat, your goal race/training distances, wether you cramp, wether you have GI issues, etc. Very simple, and a great company.

+1 to the Mickstar. Also, do a search on Infinit and you will find a ton of threads on it.
I used the questionnaire from their site for my first batch. It was a little too salty tasting so I upped the flavor for the next one and think I have it pretty close to where I want it. FYI, for IMWI last year I used a ‘concentrated’ bottle of about 6 scoops on the bike and just made sure I followed every drink with water and was fine.

Lots of Infinit users on here and I haven’t heard anyone say anything but good things about it. For me, my stomach can handle it much better than Gatorade or anything else I’ve tried. I’m also a heavy sweater, so I like the fact that I can up the electrolytes. I also removed the protein from my mixture since I didn’t need it and the protein makes the drink froth up a bit.

I have used it for a couple of years and find it is much better tolerated by me than the Hammer products esp. after it warms up and you have been drinking it for several hours. I started with the stock IM blend then added extra electrolytes as I usually cramped unless I added a bunch of Endurolytes to my other sports drinks. It is hot and humid where I usually race. I encourage you to try it out and make a few tweaks as you find what your individual body needs. The owner, Michael Folan, is very accessible and helpful too.
Good luck.

+1 on this. Mike is a great guy, and treats me, when I’ve called, as the most important issue of the day.

Facing IMMoo as well as a first timer and spent all winter mulling over the my nutrition strategy, incl Infinit.

From working the bike corral at last years IMMoo I also observed that some bikes were loaded down with enough stuff to cross the Himalayas unaided.

From following ST I also noticed that a significant number of people with a lot of experience kept making a simple point: An Ironman is the best catered event imaginable, with aid stations every 10 miles on the ride and every mile on the run, stocked with Gatorade Endurance, Hammer gels, Powerbars etc.

Subsequently I have decided that I will be just fine “living off the land”, its going to be hard enough lugging this Clydesdale around the hills without all that additional weight.

I will have an aerobottle and one bottle on the frame to exchange at each stop. Salt tablets and couple of Gels in case I feel an urgent need for a snack, thats it. The rest I will pick up along the way as needed.

This may backfire but I really do believe that keeping things as simple as possible will help me, and god knows I will need all the help possible.

Good luck, see you in Madison.

I am a fellow sweater and cramper. Don’t get carried away though with the sliders on the Infinit web-site for electrolytes. Start with their baseline Ironman distance formula. Give that a try. If you want to bump up the electrolytes do it a couple notches at a time. If not, you’ll get a mix that makes seawater.

Infinit is the bomb. Totally amazing and tastes great. Orange is my favorite.

Good stuff. I’m ordering my 3rd batch this weekend. FWIW, I’m dialing the taste scale way down. I was sitting around the middle, tasted fine in training, but, this weekend’s 1/2 iron had me struggling with the sweetness on the run. So, I’m going to dial that way down for my big race in July. I guess my point is that I’m very happy with InfinIT, but even happier that I started practicing and tweaking it several months in advance. That would be the only concern I would have for you. What if you needed to adjust it a little? Would there be enough time?

Great stuff. I bought it, used it, and love it. I highly reccommend it. In fact, I’ve never met anyone who’s tried it and didn’t like it.

I’m doing IMMoo as well. First timer

Because of ST and my own research I decided to go with Infinit. So far it has lived up to all the hype.

I went with the basic Ironman formula. I’m mixing a concentrate and following that up with water. So far this has worked great.

Has anyone tried mixing it into a gel and using a gel flask ???

I’m a clyde who sweats like no other. I live in south mississippi talk about humidity. I have been using infinit and I have yet to cramp up, in the muscles or stomach ( if you know what i mean). The orange is the best flavor.

I’m doing my 1st Ironman at CDA in a few weeks. I’m a firm believer in Infinit having only found it at the beginning of this season. I’m also a heavy sweater and a big salt loser. I’ve ended up in the med tent twice with IVs in my arm at OLY races.

I’m using Infinit as my only source of calories for my race including both the bike and the run. As others have said, Mike is a great guy. He helped me put together a 2 drink system. On the bike I’ll be doing a lemon lime formula that has protein and a little bit higher calories. Then for the run, I switch to a orange flavor, drop the protein and calories and then add a bit of caffeine. I’ve used the system at 2 HIMs this year and I have had great success. I would suggest calling Mike to get his recommendations. The first batch I bought based on the questions I answered on the web site was a little bit too salty.

One other thing I REALLY like is that the stuff actually tastes good. I tried some of the Hammer products and although I’m sure they work well they just taste terrible.

Order some, you’ll love it.

Great product and even better people running the company. personally I like to use a quicker/faster absorbing blend, (regardless of race distance) little flavor (because I mix one bottle to last 3 hrs) and little to no protein, moderate salt (you can always add for those hot races, but can’t take away) and I like my caffeine.

I agree with everyone on all fronts. I used it for my training leading up to HIMCA and my first batch was tasted super salty but I barely had any flavor selected. My next batch I turned that up a lot and now it’s a toss up between that or accelerade for my favorite sports drink.

Clyde here as well, but have you computed the aerobottle + 1 weight to two Infinit bottles and one water? I plan on 2 three hour infinit bottles and one water to exchange at each station, so, same as yours, just 2 bottles vs. 1 AB. What are bottles, 20-24 oz capacity? so, 48 ounces vs. 32 for the aerobottle (and I think the AB is at least as heavy, if not more, than two bottles). At any rate, if Infinit works (and you don’t have to carry anything else, I will have a couple gus and a payday but that’s just for variety, infinit gives me everything i need, theroetically, I won’t need to stop or slow down at all… theoretically), I don’t see how an AB is better from a weight standpoint (aside from a few ounces).

Run is a different story (although i plan on infinit there as well)

Way too many parentheses in this post!

My reference to weight was more general in nature, not Infinit specific though I recall one bike with multiple aero systems and bottles as well.

The other reason I allude to is complexity. After 80 miles on the bike, I can’t remember my own name much less how many ounces of A I mixed with B in what ratio. Furthermore, given the potential change in weather conditions, how much to carry?.

Living off the land, more stuff is always less than 10 miles away.

The greats did Ironmans on water, bananas and PBJ sandwiches. I do wonder if too many people arent making this far to complicated. On the other hand, I havent done one yet either so who knows.

I hear ya. I don’t know what you plan, but the stories I hear of people pouring stuff into their aerobottles on the move makes me nuts. Marking off the bottle in fourths, etc etc. My infinit is all premixed and ready to drink from the get go, all I have to do is chase it with water when I sip. I’ve no idea how people fgiure out how to mix ratios while riding, especially how to balance and get shit into the aerobottles. that to me seems complicated.

I’ve just had too many memories of bonking at mile 60 of 80 on endurox or performance or whatever. I don’t really change how much I carry depending on weather. My IM plan has in addition to 2 three hour bottles, which should get me to the finish even if I go 6:30 or a little over, plus a 3 hour bottle in bike SN… just in case. I figure if it’s going to take 9 hours I’m not really going to be worried about nutrition anymore, since I won’t be on the course

Hey, whatever works, works. I agree that in some respects that we have “too much” info compared to the pioneers. PNF said she never used a HRM. On the other hand, what are the greats using now.

I am going as simple as I can, living off the land. My system can handle Gatorade Endurance and Hammer Gels just fine (I think thats what’s on the menu, need to verify)

Subsequently, I will only have a full aero bottle and one full 24 oz bottle which will have refilled the aero bottle by the first or second aid station. After that its exchanging the empty for either a full water or drink bottle. One Powerbar for after the swim and a couple of Gels in my back pocket in case I get the munchies between stations and forget to pick one up. Add salt tablets, and that is the plan.

Good luck in September.

exactly keep it simple/ auto pilot. IM bike time~ 5hrs, so I mix 2 bottles with 2.5 hrs worth on nutrition and fuel accordingly. front aero bottle is strictly for cool water to hydrate and wash down concentrated Infinit mix. Also take a gel flask just incase I loose a bottle so I still have enough nutrition. Simple and gets the job done!

Note on the solid food thing, ask the greats today what they would use. Most will tell you horror stories about some crazy ass race nutrition that left them a mess.
