These kinds of stories are just ridiculous. On the very off chance that her excuse is real, I still don’t give a F. I agree it is unprofessional to live in a household or be in a relationship with someone who is using banned products and if that is why you test positive, tough shit. I still think her excuse is just BS. Zero sympathy.
…did you read the part of the story where this exact scenario has happened a couple of times now?
It’s not a “very off chance.” It’s a relatively real thing. It’s a far cry from the egg or burrito game.
Yeah, certainly precedent is on her side.
I mean, she still needs to fully prove it to ITA/IM → but it is well within the realm of plausible, versus some of the other inadvertent ingestion stories we’ve seen.
But the very least she will have to lose the Taupo result?
I agree it is plausible but I’m with likes_bikes - the rules should be clarified to eliminate this as an excuse. It’s too convenient for a drug with a short half life. Can we prove this was an incidental micro-dose vs. the tail end of an intentional dose? I have no reason to doubt Imogen, but moving forward it seems too easy to just ensure your boyfriend is taking whatever you’re taking in case you get popped.
Not necessarily, no. It’s within the WADA Code for the result to still be allowed.
@scenicRoute that’s all part of her defense – they should be able to tell the difference. It’s why there’s been successful cases to CAS on this subject.
If they can tell the difference great - shouldn’t that be made part of the process before suspending an athlete?
It’s entirely plausible. But it still shows she trained and competed with a banned substance in her body. The suggestion that she didn’t put it there knowingly, is irrelevant if that substance could have a performance impact.
Some interesting reading on this topic of steroids or hormones in semen.
https://analyticalsciencejournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/dta.3331
I find this one interesting in that they have a hard (heh) time finding men willing to take steroids and provide semen samples. Really? Have they ever tried going to a gym?
I still wonder if this is true how much benefit could be had with a nefarious partner doping, multiple times a day sex regimen. You know, for science.
She is going to have a really hard time white washing this situation. It will remain fluid until she can get some harden facts to support her assertions. I just hope that we dont get too crusty here with our critiques, she deserves the benefit of doubt, no slippery slope arguments…
There’s worse things to test positive for after sex fluids are swapped. Look at the positive side…
So, what we’re saying is her partner is a doper.
The allowable amounts for Ligandrol are in the picogram levels…aka not allowed.
The provisional suspension happens once there’s notice of an anti-doping rule violation. Then there’s the whole request of the B sample, mitigation factors, etc.
Typically IM/ITA only comment after the B sample has come back and the suspension takes full effect. But, a lot of times, people start wondering if there’s smoke to something if, say, an athlete has not competed for a certain period of time. With the start of race season coming up, it’s not shocking to me that Simmonds might want to get something out there before people start the “hey, she’s been quiet on social and isn’t racing…wonder if something is up” thing (which was part of what went on with the TRH suspension).
Particularly in this case where there’s precedent to this specific incident (note, she tested positive at a picogram level, which is tiny) – it makes sense to put something out there.
@TheStroBro – we’re not saying it. She says it: “unknown to me, my longtime partner had been ingesting ligandrol to help improve his own personal physique around the time of the positive test.”
Can you link her boy friends before and after. Just to see if it worked.
Speak for yourself on that one!
Race week luck is part of the routine 100% of the time, and I’ve been happily married for 7 years.
no pun intended, hmm?
You forgot crusty and white washing… (-; Perhaps she needs to keep one of those socks that stand up in the corner all by themselves handy…
Its worth noting that if I’m an athlete getting popped for a certain substance, the first thing I’m doing is researching which other athletes got popped for the same substance and what excuses they used to get out of their ban.
I will be in Lanzarote next week for some photo shoots … I think she’s on a different island, though!
