p. 11 of the athlete’s handbook says that both transition times will be included in your bike split.
WTF? $425 to enter and they’re so cheap they have to take away 2 of the timing mats?!

I bet this race still sells out though for 2006!
I agree, that is crap. If rinky dink sprint races can do it, IM races should do it.
where do you people find this sort of stuff? and before getting your knickers in a knot, maybe email them or sportstats to confirm? no use getting yourself worked up over something silly imho. and to think, taper hasn’t even started yet! LOL

It’s in the athletes guide on their website.
Edit - Says the same thing in the IMC athletes guide.
I dont think it is the matts any more than it is all the damn math needed to get it done…and i KNOW I have seen many folks chip in out, in out and in again at races so they can kiss their wife, kid or dog…that just complicates things more…all that should matter is your finish time…the rest are only there to keep us from cheating IMO.
Sounds like the “good old days” of “antiquated” timing back in, oh, say the mid 90’s. I do remember that from doing IMC both transition times were included in the bike split; I don’t remember freaking out about it, however.
But I do agree that it is an interesting development; would be curious to hear from IMNA on the “why’s” of this one.
Yeah that damn math… subtraction & addition… maybe someday they’ll teach one of them computer thingies to figure out how to do it.
Also, what does this do to the cutoff? Do you have to be off the bike course AND done with T2 to make the cutoff?
Judging from where they put this statement (in the rules where they are explaining cutoffs & such) it looks like they may have meant that they are included in the time necessary to make the cutoff, not that they won’t track separate transition times on ironmanlive.com and so on…does anybody have their handbook from CDA or Lake Placid? I wonder if the same statement was in those handbooks.
They said the same thing at CdA. But the T Times were all there at the end. I believe superdave is correct in assuming that they are talking about cut off times
Rover
That would be my understanding of things…there is no way they would eliminate all transition splits. Especially when it is essentially free for them to record them.
Sorry “SurferDave”
.

It’s actually hard to tell—here’s the text:
“Full medical facilities will be available to you at the bike to run transition. Athletes requiring medical care at this point in the race will not be allowed to continue. The Medical Director’s decision is final. Both transition times will be included in your bike split.”
End paragraph.
