IMLOU Weather

Not to jinx us or anything, but the forecasts are getting better and better. Weather underground is predicting dew points in the 50’s! Most predictions are for low to mid 80’s for a high. Most are predicting a wind from the north. Here is the discussion from the National Weather Service:

FRIDAY - MONDAY…

AS PREVIOUSLY ADVERTISED…A GORGEOUS WEEKEND STILL LOOKS ON TRACK
FOR OUR AREA. THIS WILL BE DUE IN PART TO COOLER TEMPS BEING
BROUGHT INTO THE AREA BEHIND THE COLD FRONT THIS MORNING AND THEN
NORTHERLY FLOW AND SUBSIDENCE WEST OF HURRICANE IRENE WILL KEEP THAT
COOLER DRIER WEATHER IN PLACE. AS A RESULT…EXPECT LOW TO MID 80S
FOR HIGHS FRI-MON. GUIDANCE IS KEYING IN ON SUNDAY BEING THE
COOLEST DAY WITH MOST LOCATIONS IN THE LOWER 80S FOR HIGHS…THE
ONLY MID 80S WILL BE DOWN BY BWG. LOW TEMPS SHOULD BE IN THE LOWER
60S WITH UPPER 50S POSSIBLE ESPECIALLY IN VALLEYS AND OTHER
TYPICALLY COOL SPOTS.

Hope it holds!

Last year it was like that until Friday, then back to normal. Saturday was warm, 93 when I started running the marathon.
Good luck to everyone there!!

What does northernly wind mean in terms of timing on the headwind/tailwind on the bike course?

I think it would mean mostly cross winds if the wind is from the north. Maybe some headwind into and out of La Grange and possibly some tail wind on 42 back into town. The perfect scenario if it is going to be windy!!

That’s what I thought looking at the map

I read that last year the temperature at 5 am on race day was 79 degrees and the water temperature was 84!
I’ve been here since Tuesday and it’s been warm and humid.
The wind has been kickin’ up a little too over the last few days.
There’s still time for things to level out.

Pumped for you guys…high of 83 vs. 88 in Penticton…should be perfect for all racing on Sunday…on either side of the border!!

If you think it has been warm and humid this week it is a good thing that you weren’t here the rest of the summer. I went running Wednesday at 530 when it was almost 96 with the heat index and thought to myself this is great weather for a run. The racers got lucky this year because the weather looks to be perfect on Sunday for the race. Good luck to everyone racing. I will be on the run course cheering everyone on with my megaphone and some beer.

Mmmmmmm…beer. That’s what I’m looking forward to about 8pm Sunday!!!

Well, you won’t have far to walk to get one.

Probably the #2 reason I picked IM Lou other than the fact that entry was still open!!

The finish is awesome, really loud. You’re gonna love it. The year Max Longree won he had someone call ahead to one of the restaurants at 4th St. Live and had them bring him a huge cheeseburger as he crossed the finish line.

That’s awesome!!! I raced in 2009 and agree 4th street live is fantastic! Well, except on the first loop!

It’s a whole lot less hot today at 2PM than it was yesterday at 2pm. Hope the trend continues like the say it will.

Does anybody know what the water temps are? I’m seriously doubting the temps will get the point where they will be wet suit legal. But it doesn’t hurt to ask. Who would have thought we would be getting weather this nice!!!

That is true. I was in line for the swim at 4:15 last year and it was 79. This year looks to be much better.

A tail wind on 42 back to town would be awesome.

yep reminds me of 2007 except then it was over 100 up until sat before the race and a cold front came through it rained and wind from the north like forecast was chilly out there start of bike.
go figure… can’t even count on louisville to be hot…

Water temperature this afternoon was 86 degrees.
I was there when one of the swim course officials made the measurement.
Anything over 83.8 and wetsuits are prohibited.

Actually, it really does hurt to ask. Don’t ask. It won’t be wetsuit legal. Really. Don’t even pack it. (But if you are in to self-torture: the Army Corps of engineers posts water conditions for the Ohio River. They don’t post water temps for all locations every day, but you can get an idea by looking at nearby locations or looking over a range of days. It looks like the current water temp is around 84. Bring your scrubbie and some soap 'cause that’s bath water.)

This race will never be wetsuit legal. Left mine at home.
