IMFL day 1 report (Wednesday)

I arrived in PC Beach on Wednesday morning with the company truck loaded with goodies. I brought an 06 QR Tiphoon, 06 Caliente, 06 Tequilo, 06 Kilo plus an 06 Litespeed Saber, 06 Vortex Compact and the 12 pound 06 Ghisallo showbike. Plus Bruce from Dragon Sports had a couple Luceros plus several 05 QRs in his big tent here at Alvin’s Island.
I was barely unpacked when first Darren from Sugoi, Heavy D (Dan) and then Paul plus several other slowtwitchers from Canada came by and said hello. It is really amazing how many people introduce themselves as “lurkers”, maybe there are truly more lurkers than posters.
During the day several pros stopped by too, such as Dave Harju and Marie Danais, Jamie Cleveland and Andrea Fisher, Bella Comerford and Stephen Bayliss, Tony DeLogne and a couple of pros from Venezuela.
Everybody seems to be in great spirit and has been very nice and positive, and that makes it such a pleasure to be involved in the sport of triathlon.
in the evening I attended a small industry gathering hosted by Casey Corteze from Janus. She is a very nice person and I love how passionate she usually speaks at the IM events about the Janus Challenge and the amazing amounts of money the athletes raise. She is an excellent public speaker.
At that gathering I bumped into Tom Ziebart, the voice of IM Mike Reilly, Wendy Ingraham, Roch Frey and the who’s who of IM North America.
But after having traveled until very late the night before I called it an early night and went to bed by 10pm.
Cheers,
Herbert

Herbert - You forgot to post the pictures from the party! The party broke up after you left - I called it a night around 10:15 as I had to be up at 5:00 AM to mix the Gatorade.

We had a great slowtwitch crew at the Gatorade morning swim this morning - 600 swimmers - Big thanks to my vounteers - Miami79, Heavy D, Francios and the rest.

I told Holly where your tent is, and I hope she stops by.

No worries…however…not sure who is responsible for the music…but you need to do something about this
.

Monk…wish you were here. Know it’s been a tough year for you. Will think of you as I try to avoid OPG on the bike.

Hey, I thought the music was O.K. Might have attracted the jellyfish though

Anyway, nice meeting you tonight. Had to bolt at dinner as the kids were definitely testing me and my wife - see 'ya Saturday.

Thanks for bringing the new Vortex too (first time I’ve seen one) - I have a 1999 vintage Vortex that I have been thinking about updating when some “significant” changes were made - this might be it. Man that Ghisallo was light!

Saw you at Sweet Basil’s, but didn’t introduce myself. A shame since I am such a Litespeed junkie.

thanks for all your help today Herbert!

Monk…wish you were here… its gonna be a great day as tony the tiger says!

And what a great singing voice you have, Tom. Nice rendition of the National Anthem at the dinner tonight.

I’ll be at the morning swim around 7:00 (maybe a bit late) and I’ll have a sign saying SlowTwitch that my daughter so graciously made for me. Hopefully, other STr’s will gather around and meet.

Yeah–I am not that social a person, but I am missing this excitement. Kimbo up there? I heard you guys in the background on the voice message today–funny! I’m glad H saw some friendly faces.

Thanks - I’m always the back-up singer for Ironman. They try to get a local person to do the singing, but sometimes they do not show up, so I get to sing. We will see if the real singer shows up on race morning! Z

Tom–Someday you will get your break. There will be a major record producer in the audience and next thing you know, you will be practicing snynchronized dance moves with four other guys and dating Britney Spears.

Kimberly went to columbus, ga to see her folks. just easier to do that with gavin…too hot for him to be out here in the sun all day barely getting a glipse of his dad coming by running or biking. Their names are on my aero bars so I am taking them with me tomorrow on the bike for good luck.

just got back from dropping the bike off at transition. time to get off the feet and getting ready. thanks for all your encouragement over the last month or so.

Good Luck CooterMan!!! Race your race and let Joe B go this time. I guess I have two days to decide if I want to race IMFL next year as I am sure it will fill quickly.
