IMC Wheel Decisions

I’m going to run my rear Hed Jet 50 PT w/wheelcover. And I’m about 80% certain I’m going to run my matching Jet 50 on the front based on what I’ve heard about the crosswinds when descending Richter and Yellow Lake. My other option is a Hed3 which I know to be a faster wheel, but also know it can be a handful in the wind.

So, for those of you that are familiar with the course and the “typical” race day conditions, does the Jet setup sound like the best bet? Is anyone running a deep front or H3 up front?

BTW, this will be my first time doing IMC and first time on the course.

Thanks.

Fred

If you’re a halfway decent bike handler (not “for a triathlete”, but legitimately) the H3s should pose no problems.
If you doubt your abilities, stick with the Jet.

I’ve raced IMC 5x and consider myself a half decent rider esp in winds. Qualified for Kona there in 05. Last year, I almost crashed because of my front HED3. I’d go with a Jet 50. http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?post=1954924;search_string=hed3%20wobble;#1954924

Thanks Graham. Prudent advice and I think I’m going to play it safe and stick with the Jet 50.

I have Hed H3C’s and a front Hed Alp… they will all be staying at home, and yes I consider myself to be competent on my rig.

Too many near high speed crash decents on the H3C’s. The rear is actual “untrue” and will be shipped to Hed once I arrive in N.America on Saturday.
I would still use the combination for flat course racing though.

I will be using my training wheels , Mavic Ksyriums ( clinchers ), to race IM Canada next weekend.

Cheers,

Terry
