IMC: Has Penticton been particularly warm this year?

I see the lake is warmer than usual so I’m assuming the air temp has been higher. Anyone have any specifics? How much warmer has it been?

I have the daily and 14-day projected weather for Penticton emailed to me daily, and above-average temperatures (average is 29, projected is 30-34 C) are forecast for the 14th through the 22nd. I was up there for a training camp 2 weekends ago and it was very warm (35 C on Friday, 33 on Saturday).

It’s in the 60s in Seattle right now, which helps my warm weather acclimitization plan for IMC not one damm bit :frowning:

I think there was a huge heat wave in Western Canada (now going on in the Prairies) about a month ago. Some heat records were set in Vancouver and other BC towns. It’s cooled off quite a bit recently and seems even below normal when I check the weather on the Environment Canada website, but I imagine the watershed feeding the Okanagan is pretty warm from residual heat.

It has been pretty warm there this summer, but I wouldn’t think more than a couple degrees above normal. Wishing for some of that heat here in Victoria!

I live in Penticton, and it`s been about normal for this area - warm and dry. It will likely be a little cooler on race day, as August comes to and end, but the wind will likely be blowing at least for some portion of the race, so be prepared for that.

Lots of new pavement on the road down to Osoyoos, making it really fast and enjoyable. The out and back still sucks… The climb up Yellow lake has been replaced by an escalator- nice.

yeah…weather asnt been this hot during the summer… i would say normal… we had maybe 5-6 very hot days but now, it s normal. Lake is about 72 degres and yes, i was also very surprise last week biking the course and noticing that they completly redone the yellow lake road, dynamite a lot of the mountain and it s now completly flat from keremeos to penticton… should be a least 10-15 minutes faster this year!

I know, I can’t wait for 2008 - I hear that nest year’s construction program will result in a downhill ride all the way from t1 to t2.

although it’s probably only a rumor, I heard they were planning on holding the swim in the Channel, with one of those busses to loop you back to the sicamous. I’m looking for a very aero floaty inner tube - I hear they’ve got some new carbon ones that are super fast.

(I guess it must be close to taper time and we’ve got too much time on our hands)

Sweet! Does all my aero gear still give me an advantage or will it slow me down?
