Wasn’t that suppose to be today???
you just finished it last weekend…qualified for HI…and you’re already thinking about doing it again!!! Masochist.
Was the meeting set for today, or did they hope to have resolution today?
I was just about to ask the same question. I have checked it a few times and no mention of it
“TEMPE, Ariz.-Ironman North America will make an announcement on 2006 Ironman Arizona registration on Friday, April 15.”
They were going to make an announcement today… not sure what that meant
I am still “high” from last week…
Yeah, I need to redeem myself, so I need to start planning now! For the record, I thought the course was great, even the downtown section was not bad, but if it were a more out and back, that would be best. We’ll see.
apparently…seems the course agreed with you as well
.
**Wasn’t that suppose to be today??? **
The verbiage on the website refers to some meetings they were going to have with the “host communities” and then a registration announcement was going to be made. Will be interesting to see what comes out of all that…

TEMPE, Ariz.-The 2006 Ironman Arizona Triathlon will open to general entry at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, April 17 (Pacific Standard Time).
The event will take place on Sunday, April 9, 2006 in Tempe and the surrounding area.
The 2005 event featured more than 1,800 athletes from around the world competing for 80 qualifying spots to the 2005 Ironman World Championship, as well as a $75,000 pro prize purse.
Athletes can enter by logging onto www.ironmanarizona.com and clicking the entry button.
A new bike course for the event is currently being designed with two different two-loop options being looked at. Look for the final announcement on the bike course in the near future.
“We have had very positive discussions with all the communities involved on a different bike course,” said Ironman North America President Graham Fraser. “We are excited and look forward to Tempe being a great annual event for us.”

Looks like they ended up choosing a pagan date…
I actually liked the three loops. Too bad they are changing the bike. There were no hard corners, it was somewhat rolling once in a while and the only packs I saw were in on my third loop, which was the second loop for many of those packs.
Well thats what happens when peer pressure causes one to cave.
At least they didn’t choose the next Sunday, which is Easter sunday.
I agree, there is something to be said for multiple loops, it makes it much easier mentally when you know what is coming. Even though I probably road this course more than anyone, nothing is the same as race day. In any case, I’ll still be happy with 2 loops.
Who’s in for next year? I had planned to bow out, letting some out-of-towner have the slot and spend money in my neighborhood while I volunteered. But since I wasn’t able to give it my all this time around, I’m thinking I’ll jump in again, yet try to volunteer pre/post race. It’s just too damn convinient for me to pass by. 'Course if the price is $500 I might think twice.
I’ve got some other options for later this year for IM’s if I choose, not even sure if doing another really interests me at this point . I guess I’m one of the few who fail to see what the big deal is about doing multiple IM’s.
How about attempting an IM with more than 4 good sessions total before getting to the race…you should go MUCH faster than what you did…
aren’t you tempted to see how much faster?
Francois,
I am with you. This Ironman-as-the-first-race-of-the-season routine, seems absurd to me. Perhaps I am a bit old-school, but what happened to taking your time, gradually building the fitness through the season, doing some other races and then doing the IM race at the end of the season. After these people do an IM in April, then what?
Fleck
it’s not that absurd after years and years of consistent training.
but in Brian’s case, I think he’d be much faster with some serious training for the race. He did maybe 3 good sessions in El Paso, a couple in Phoenix during the camp (when he wasn’t trying to fix his bike that was breaking down as if it had been made in France)
I guess that it may be more a result of where you live. I live in, Southern Ontario and we had snow on the ground up until about 10 days ago, so the thought of racing an IM at this time of the year seems insane to me. Why fight the weather. It only get’s better from here. Train through the best weather of the year and then race do the big A race in August.
Fleck
fleck, i’ve done an im in july and one in november. in a way, i prefered july because by the time november rolled around i was a little tired from a whole season of racing. plus it’s starts getting cold in october in rochester so my long rides were starting to get miserable. i have got to move someplace warm.
