i came home shattered from a ride saturday morning where i was barely able to hang with those much fitter or faster than i … i hobbled inside to get a cup of coffee and a dry sweatshirt. After a short while I had an “oh my god” moment and realized that while i’d carried in my gear bag, i’d left my bike leaning on the fence while i put the seats up and tidy’d up the car (my wife’s) … i walked quickly outside and my cervelo p3 … (aluminum, but still only 2 years old) … was gone.
i’ve filed a police report. i’ve scoured the neighborhood. i’ve nobody to blame but myself.
i am disconsolate. inconsolable. utterly fucking devestated.
i may not even be able to spell.
… anyone have a 54 or 51 P3 running 650’s that they care to sell cheap to someone totally unworthy to own a decent bike?
… i have no idea what the fuck i’m going to do.
… i feel like i’ve lost a family member (distant) … well, no … maybe a pet. i hate to over dramatize the moment … but … i’m absolutely miserable and beating the ever loving hell out of myself for facilitating the criminals in my neighborhood. i no more blame them than i would a wild animal eating an unattended piece of meat … i blame myself entirely …
see I don’t get why you cannot leave your bike outside your house without it being stolen - I am missing that gene. I am sorry your bike is gone - that sucks but stop blaming yourself!!! It is amazing that society has descended to such a point that you blame yourself for someone STEALING your property.
Check on e-bay too. Many stupid people (thiefs) have been caught by listing it there.
I feel your pain.
Expensive bikes don’t come with kickstands for a reason. I don’t even own a lock for my bike. If you need to lean it, lean it against yourself or a friend - No Exceptions.
Scour eBay, craigslist, and local pawn shops. Put up signs at LBS with a pic of the bike. Get the word out to fellow cyclists. Good luck man, that blows balls
While there are no less than 5 police officers who live and park their police cars in the small (30 homes?) townhome neighborhood adjacent to my own subdivision, there has been a recent rash of break-ins there. I have taken to double locking my garage, and have activated the ADT system in my home, which is something I never thought I would do.
I feel bad for you. Posts like this are what make me glad I live in a podunk town where I can leave my bike outside for hours on end (I’ve even left it overnight by accident) and not worry about it.
Ya’ll need to move somewhere where crime is near nothing. Our police dept gets bored!
The only thing that has ever happened here is a “homeless” person came into the bed and breakfast property across the street and helped herself to some cookies : )
thanks for the support and suggestions. within an hour of finding out this had happened i had: scoured the neighborhood streets and alleys by foot, filed a police report, called homeowners insurance agent, spoken with local bike shops and pawn shops to make certain they knew who i was, what was stolen, and the fact that my full name is on the top tube!
the reason i beat myself up is because a) i know better b) would not blame animals for eating food left in the forest - leaving a shiny, expensive-looking red and white bauble out where it can be seen and taken is just tooooo much of a temptation for the local wildlife to resist.
Tom-Im hoping you have found your bike by now…Im assuming that you live in Annapolis too. Ive had three bikes stolen in the past few years (one of them downtown right in front of me) and one of them was actually returned to me. The police actually told me that they sent out an alert bacuase They had never seen green mountain bike tires and were curious. They found some crackhead riding it an hour later. Anyhow, I also have a beloved red and white P3, 51".I pretty much know every Cervelo in town and who should and should not be on one.Ill spread the word to any of my tri friends to call the police if they see any kids or thugs on a tri bike.So sorry again!
Sorry to hear about the loss. Renters or mortgage insurance should cover it. If you act quick, there is a Quintana Roo Lucero Lite on Bonktown for $1000.
Sorry to hear about your situation. Sometimes these things do turn up see LA and Dave Zabriskie’s recent experiences. If it doesn’t and you’d be interested in looking at a Calfee Tetra Tri 54 ready to ride PM me. It’s also 650C set up so at least if you have other wheels, forks, etc it might work out for you.
