I completed IMWI this year and I’d like to hop on the commemorative tattoo bandwagon, but all the research I’ve done shows men with IM tattoos. I don’t think I’d look very good with a calf tattoo, and I think the MDot logo is a little bold for me, especially filled in with red!
Do any women out there have an IM tattoo? Did you get the MDot or 140.6? Where is your tattoo?
All I can say is that the standard mdot tattoo is SO BORING. The whole point of a tat is to be unique and creative! So let your creative side run wild! Have fun with it! Take a poll of friends and family (and ST like you’re doing) to give you some good ideas. But if you’re going to ink yourself, make it unique!
Logan, there are no stupid questions. Just stupid elitists who have deluded themselves into thinking they’re “above the crowd” and are incensed about the increasing popularity - and subsequent commercialization - of the Ironman.
I am aware of the stigma of the MDot tattoo. I know it bothers you that I’m a generally sub-par athlete with an ancient crappy road bike, hip displaysia and a penchant for cheese curds and Guinness and yet I still managed to finish a the same 140.6 distance you did - with several hours to spare - but I’m allowed to be proud of it. I assure you that you will never have to look at my tattoo.
The folks who whine incessantly about the increasing popularity of the sport (and therefore its apparent decline) sound a whole lot like the people who, when a band gets really popular, go around telling everyone that they were fans FIRST, when the band was still UNDERGROUND!
I’m off to get a tattoo of the Wal-Mart logo just to piss you off.
lower back waist line I have never seen m dot there on a girl…I would go on the big size but dress it up to make it your own…do your thing tell everyone else to stick it
.
There are definitely stupid questions. Stupid people if you must know, too.
As to the tattoo, I know several people with them. One got her’s last year. Just below her waistline, if you must know, where sometimes you see it and sometimes you don’t. Another has one adjacent to the landing strip. The guys’ range from calf to shoulder and in between. All boring.
You asked for a place and I gave you one. In my mind, if you go with a plain Jane corporate logo, or the such, you should at least put it in a good spot.
For the record, I drew the do-dad tattooed on my shoulder. I like it and it means nothing other than I like it.
Don’t kid yourself, there are stupid questions for adults…for kids…maybe not. Is your tatoo question stupid??? I can never figure out why anyone would want to put something permanent as a tatoo on their body…but, that’s just me.

As Yogi once said, “It’s so busy, nobody goes there anymore.”
I doubt I’ll ever do an IM; I find halfs hard enough. Having said that, do you want the M dot logo? If you do, I’d get it in pink with WI’s state flower or something. If you don’t want the m-dot logo, I’ve seen some nice ink for swim, bike, run artistic logos. Or to take a twist on Trailbait’s products, how about:
If you read my original post, you’ll see that I’m leaning away from the MDot in favor of a 140.6 tat - I see that most people only do that if they haven’t done a WTC-sanctioned Iron distance race, but I’d do 140.6 because the MDot is brash and pretty fugly.
As you may already be able to tell, I don’t give two hoots about the “corporateness” - or lack thereof - of the logo; I’m just looking for an interesting design and interesting location.
Thanks for your input.
p.s. I lied when I said you’ll never see my tattoo. I’m going to send you a pic of my new gothic Wal-Mart neck tattoo. I’ll be the one with a 40 of Colt .45 in each hand wearing an Ed Hardy t-shirt. Let’s be best friends.
