Well Solveig could have won it if she was within 100 seconds of the winner, so it’s still up for grabs
I suppose, but I woke up at 5 to watch Georgia v USA and the race was already over. So I’m reacting a bit.
What I mean when the race started, Kat still could have lost to Solveig under a few scenarios, none of which came to be. When Kat dropped out it was clear she was going to win so I’m sure that made her decision easier.
I understand.
I was thinking about the last part on my ride tonight, I wonder if Matthews would have tried to go on if she actually needed to in order to win the series
She was pretty much reduced to a walk it seemed
A different question is if the Series was at risk would she have slowed down to nurse the calf to ensure the Pro Series? Since she came off the bike knowing Solveg had virtually no chance of challenging for the Series it freed her to push and go for the win. But she knew she came in injured so if that wasnt the case would she have given up the chance for a podium and maintained her big paycheck by marking Solveg?
The rugby match too, you could’ve had a nice sleep knowing it was going to be a big L.
In a place to win most of the match, if we didn’t concede the yellow and bleed two tries while O’Keeffe was off we’d have won. Last week was a BIG L, this week you might call it a quality loss. Onto Romania and the Pershing Cup!
In the latest start list for Dubai a number raced Marbella. I observe Megan McDonald has pulled out (after her Marbella race). Hope Findlay will be up to it.
I think Paula already said she is heading home to try and get ready for Qatar..
Yeah, she posted on instagram she’s out. Returning home to try to get healthy.
I think she will shut it down for the year, even if there is a chance to recover enough to finish. Her disdain for the T100 racing and associated travel is pretty blatant on the podcast, and she’ll use any injury clause she can to not travel again this year. She’ll be all in on Ironman branded races next year, maybe a t100 if it slots in.
And she said on a few pods that an Ironman next year is a foregone conclusion. She wasn’t ready this year but it’s full steam ahead for next year. She was also really into the Kona vibe this year.
If there’s a ladies T100 in Canada I bet that’s the only one she lines up at. Otherwise it’s Kona + a race to qualify and NA 70.3s.
One can certainly hope. I really wanna see her in Ironman and in (fingers crossed) Kona.
Well there’ll only be one T100 in Canada, and it’s in August, 4 weeks before the 70.3 Worlds in Nice. I think Findlay’s reputation as a proud Canadian and that nation’s best triathlete (ack Pacquet) will mean that Vancouver is designated as a WPro race. But San Francisco would be an easy trip (again no idea M or W; W on my worksheet with Singapore = M (sufferfest)) - why plonk around NA 70.3s when the prize purse for a T100 is $275k?
For the IM Pro Series in 2026, Findlay could do Oceanside then Texas (April), to KQ, T100 SF (June), Boise (July), T100 Vancouver (August), Nice (September) and Kona (October). Decent results in those will get her a top 5 in the IM Pro Series with two IMs and three 70.3s.
But priority is to establish what the hip issue is, treat and rehab.
It won’t be this way…but if the PTO were going to move oceans and mountains for an Athlete, two of the three North American T100s should be women races. That way they could get Taylor Knibb in. Then you’d easily get Paula I think. Because the travel load would be minimal for the third race wherever that is.
We more or less know that the three NA races will be SF, Vancouver and LLV. The last is likely to be an effective clash with Kona: good luck with that. I have essayed a calendar on the 2026 T100 thread.
Those locations were what I’m assuming.
