IM Pro Series 2025

It’s an opinion, but I can get to 10 with ease and so could you if you are honest with yourself. Are you saying t100 has all the best athletes and not missing a single person?

Your and Pat’s problem is that you use Ironman proficiency for your list. Those people you come up with are not better at T100 than the T100 athletes (save for Kristian and a couple others).

You are moving the goalposts.

The take is:
“in year 2 [of the T100] they missed the biggest roughly 15 names in the sport. None of them are doing the series.”

It implies that there are 15 athletes better than any that are contracted.

That’s what people are giving y’all shit for.

Oh thanks, I just used the fancy search function of the forum to quote myself (actually Pat), so I’ll still do it :joy:

Do you think its more than 5 but less than 15? Are we really splitting hairs over precise numbers?

Nobody is arguing that T100 wouldn’t be better off with Kristian Blummenfelt than Nicolas Mann or with Kat Matthews than Hannah Berry.

I think it is 0-1 on the women’s side and potentially 1-2 on the men’s side. I don’t think you’re understanding the logic.

That’s great! Happy we have a difference in opinion. To me the Mens number is 5+ and women number is 3+

There are 3+ bigger names than Taylor Knibb? There are 5+ bigger names than Hayden Wilde? If that’s your argument, okay I guess, depending on your criteria.

See now you’re moving the goal post… I didn’t say bigger than T Knibb or Hayden… I’m just saying there’s 15 others that could feature in top 10 and or complete their contracts better than some on contract currently. If you get my drift.

Lemieux, in a chatty manner during a pod (think maybe live at Swansea) “in year 2 [of the T100] they missed the biggest roughly 15 names in the sport. None of them are doing the series.” [quote courtesy of @kajet ]

Not ‘athletes who beat the current T100 leaders’ though some would.

Biggest Names (triathletes) not ‘doing the T100 Series’:
Blummenfelt
Laidlow
Sanders
Lange
Iden
Yee
Sanders

Philipp
Matthews
Haug
Sodaro
Duffy (is not ‘doing the Series’, is she?)
Beaugrand
Potter

Pretty close to 15 right there
Wouldn’t be at all surprised if Knibb ends up ‘not doing the Series’.

If the statement was “there are 15 athletes missing that are bigger names than 15 of the contracted athletes”, I think we’re on the same page.

The word “biggest” though in the original statement implies that all the missing names are bigger than all the contracted names.

Sorry if that’s pedantic, but I do logic for a living, so I interpreted it strictly logically.

I mean yeah that’s pretty pedantic… come on now

Another way to look at it…

“The biggest roughly 15 names in the sport”

Yee
Wilde
Bergere
Beaugrand
Derron
Potter
Lange
Laidlow
Philipp
Charles-Barclay
Geens
Bogen
Knibb
Van Riel

Obviously there are lots of way to slice this, but I chose the recent Olympic cycle medalists, last 2 Ironman world champions, last 2 Ironman 70.3 world champions, most recent T100 champions as the “biggest roughly 15 names in the sport”. (There are 14 due to Knibb’s overlaps)

Then we look at the next part, “none of them are doing the series”.

This is clearly not true. 8 of them are.

So, that’s another angle of how I interpreted this take. I don’t think this is particularly pedantic. If people mean something else, they should say something else.

Thanks for the shout. Why are Yee, Beaugrand and Potter there? Just add Tertsch, Hauser, Lehair, Lombardi, Hidalgo, le Corre and others to the list and “prove” that T100 has males ranked below 15 and females ranked below 15 so the take is even hotter

Sanders the triathlete and Sanders the YouTuber?

It wasn’t pedantic, and you’re right. It only just all started from yet another petty and biased comment from one of the ptn guys. But they are doing a little better lately at being fair to T100; they’re getting there.

Without having to count names, and cherry pick races, overall it’s pretty obvious that at the middle distance racing level, there are far more top athletes missing from IM 70.3 races than there are at T100 races.

Yeah but that kinda doesnt matter given the only time we really see people go toe to toe is 70.3 worlds anyway. This year will be an obvious divide as not everyone qualified for 70.3 worlds on the t100 circuit, and with it sandwiched between Wollongong and Dubai. It will be interesting.

I think all of us should just chill out, head to the pub and have a round together. None of this nonsense trying to split hairs over how many of the best are at the race. Just enjoy the racing dynamics for what it is!
