I saw that the Ironman was coming through my neighborhood and decided to volunteer. I wanted to learn more about the logistics and found these forums. I was reading some of the posts and started wondering if important questions haven’t been asked.

The race takes place in August. It will be incredibly hot, 90s and humid. I volunteered for the early running section and that gets done at six. There’s a night section too! Is there some precedent for handling this type of heat and humidity? There’s a good chance it will be warmer than it is in Hawaii in October. I’m excited to volunteer but a bit worried about dealing with people passing out.

The running section takes part on a really small path. It’s too small for New York Road Runners races. It’s in worse condition the farther north you go. I run on it every day. It’s packed with people from the neighborhood picnicking on the weekends. There’s been nothing posted in the neighborhood or on the path about the race. I’m wondering if people know that this path is not very suitable for a large race. Maybe there will be very few people actually close together? It’s probably six feet wide in places, has dozens of access points, is lined with packed basketball, tennis, volleyball, baseball, and picnic areas.
