IM Mont-Tremblant Women's Pro Field

Women’s Pro field for this race shows 6 entries. For the “North American Championship.” I guess I am having a tough time reconciling the argument for more prize money on the one side with the participation numbers on the other side. Probably a catch-22 situation.

It does not show DNFs.
Tine Deckers was leading the race and later was a DNF. Not sure who the other pro who DNF’d was.

A little too close to the 70.3 WC and then the Full WC to attract a huge field.

Yeah, but how many pros will be a factor at either championship…they could be competitive and take home some money at Tremblant this weekend and get a vacation to Kona on accoubt of 4000 points…seriously hard for pros to debate the size of purses when they don’t show for the biggest Mdot purse in North America outside of a a world championship…pros keep showing they will race for nothing as long as it gets them to Kona…they will ignore bigger WTC purses or Rev3 or Challenge in favour of racing early for a Kona invite. That’s why they were whining about 7th place at LP because pros want to wrap up Kona invites early and get paid.

Sorry, but my sympathy factor is low. I used to feel they should get paid more for the hard work, but in the rest of the world we don’t get paid for working hard on the wrong thing…we have to word hard and smart on the right thing.

completely have to agree on this with you dev… well said.

From what I noticed, in 2013 this was a big race, mainly because there were a lot of pro’s on the bubble of getting to Kona. So they did IMMT in order to get some “last ditch effort” points in order to get to Kona.

In 2014 most of the pro’s got their points earlier in the year, so you have only a handful of pro’s who are still fighting to get into Kona. That is why the field at IMMT was so low.

Next year the IM North Murica championship is in TX, which plays into the pro’s who are trying to get early points for Kona and not mess up their shot at a good Kona race by having to do an IM 8 weeks out from Kona.

Fingers crossed that the field at IMTX will be a good one, both because of points and money.

I was shocked at the huge difference between the men’s and women’s winning times.

I agree that the Pro filed next May in both Brazil, and Texas will be stacked, which goes to the point that pros care more about Kona points early than the prize money.

Take Matt Russel as a counter example. He races at Whistler ($75K) and Mont Tremblant ($125K). For the record he was already pre qualified for Kona on the July cut. He could have sat around this month and saved his legs for Kona and skipped Tremblant, but he likely has a much better shot at money at Tremblant than Kona. A lot of pros in his shoes skipped Tremblant to save their legs. He gave his sponsors some exposure, and got some prize money in the process. Yeah, I realize that many people will say that he has a crazy schedule, doing a ton of races, but it seems he has figured out how to work the system to eek out a living.
