Where’s the best place to stay for Louisville? Would love to have a fridge and be close to both start and finish as we’ll have a 1 yr old with us and it would make my wife much happier not to have to trek around downtown Louisville pushing a stroller all day (or any more than necessary I reckon). Thanks!
We stayed here last year with a 3 year old, worked out great as it is newish and a suite.

yeah that’s were we were last year as well and are booked there again for this year. Pretty nice spot, great location and view of Pro-Choice Arena w reasonable rates.
The Gault house.
- Great location.
- Rooms are big
- Packet pick up is there
- Messages and MAT is there
- Right on river and close to transition and start
Stayed at the Galt last yr. Hotel/location is great. Their cafe was open extra early for the racers. The only drawback was that the elevators couldn’t handle the masses. It took FOREVER to get up and down the elevator! I opted for the stairs a couple of times and i was on the 18th floor (at least it seemed that way).

same here. I’d stay there again, but request a room on the main side of the road. Rooms are newer and a little nicer. Elevators were the only negative I experienced.

For me, it’s my house. But you don’t have that option. ![]()
map of downtown hotels
I stayed at the Courtyard on the corner of Main & 2nd. It had a small fridge. Short walk to Galt, transition, & finish. I’d stay there again if I ever went back.
I thought it was ideal for the family since they could literally walk out the front door and wait until they saw me near the start of the run (out & back on the bridge) and then meet at the finish.
Pro-Choice Arena
say what?
Named after legendary Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino who allegedly knocked up his friend’s wife at a restaurant admitted paying her $3,000 for an unidentified healthcare expense.
Squid,
Heading to Lville for nats with some teammates but we don’t want to stay downtown as the riding is less than great. Any suggestions for areas to the east, such as La Grange?
Fairfield Inn/Spring Hill Suites. Just a few blocks from transition/finish, free breakfast, fridge and microwave in some rooms, reasonable rates, and Marriott rewards (if that applies to you).
+1 Galt House. Stayed there last two years and will be again this year. Thats where all the action is. If you like the IM vibe.
Marriot Residence Inn Downtown is closer to the transition than the Galt and it is a nice suite hotel with a kitchen. Although I think the proximity to the finish line might be more important!
When I stayed there the first year they didn’t seem to know about the IM and the rates were under a $100, once they seemed to realize the demand they jacked it up to $189.
If I went again I would probably stay there again or the Galt House. Galt was just really convenient for everything and it isn’t really any more expensive than anywhere else.
I vote for the Galt House as well. Walking distance to everything…last year, I think everything was held at the hotel, but I’m not sure about this year. We had a suite which came w/ a mini fridge which was very handy. I plan on staying there next year as well, and possibly this year too as a volunteer. Only downside was the wait for the elevators. Good luck!
The Gault house is the best. That is the race hotel and is close to everything. But the rates last year were like $169 a night. However, if you go on hotwire.com (like we did) you do not get to see the hotel you pick, but we decided to pick one that was 3 or 4 stars for $59 a night. Turns out it was the Galt House afterall. We were paying 110 a night less than everyone else. Hotwire works in a way to wear if certain hotels don’t sell out, you get a pick at them. Before you pay you will see 3 - 5 possible hotels it could be. If all those hotels are close to the race starting area, your in luck. Chances are you might get stuck in the Galt house (the most convenient) like we did.

Carl, there is a Comfort Inn and Holiday Inn express in LaGrange. There’s a Ramada Inn on River Road (at Zorn Ave) that’s about 2 miles from downtown. As you may know, for cyclists River Road is the main artery out of town and to the more rural areas. There’s also a Hilton Garden Inn out in Prospect (Park Plaza Ave) from which you can easily get to Wolf Pen Branch road and out to the rural areas. Actually, if you stay at, say, the Marriot downtown , it’s just a few blocks from River Road- you could be out of downtown in no time. When are the nationals?
