Hey L’ville folks-
Thinking about driving down tonight to ride bike course early Thursday morning. Good idea or bad idea from a traffic/ safety standpoint? Would head out 5:30-6:00 AM. Thanks for input.

I did that a couple Fridays ago, and was fine. Watch 146 though, I would try to get through that area before 7:15-7:30am. Otherwise you should be fine. Be warned though, I-64 is closed through downtown, so people are having to take alternate routes, and River Road is one of them. Those roads are extra busy through the end of July.
Smarter to stay in LaGrange and head into town early, or stay downtown and possibly ride with commuter traffic?
I left from my house at 5:30am (a little dark still) and I live less than 2 miles from River Rd and Zorn Avenue (where the Water Tower is). Going out, you are against any traffic coming into town anyway. 146 into La Grange had some construction traffic (almost got killed by a dump truck) even before 7:30am. Coming back into town, you should be late enough to miss the majority of the morning commute. I didn’t have any problems. Got back home around 10:15. Stopped for refills at the store in Sligo, where 153 meets 42. From there, you are about 35 miles back to downtown.
chappy and I are riding the whole course and then some saturday morning. You’re (or anyone else) welcome to tagg along…if you’re slow.
