From the article - “I was attempting to pre-ride the bike course, but I got stopped by the Martis Camp gatehouse guards on Schaffer Mill Road, mile mark 34. The guard was aware of the Ironman Lake Tahoe race, but he said he has not been given authorization to let participants pass now or on race day. As far as he knows, Martis Camp has not given the race permission to go through their property. He said he has turned dozens of riders around and will continue to do so.”
I expected no training before the race. I do not think they would have posted the route without getting the okay for race day. Sure not going to worry about a guard knowing what is going on.
Going to try and see if I have the energy after Donner on Sunday to drive up so the bottom of the pass and give it a try. (Assuming I am not too lazy)
The gatehouse guard will not have been consulted and will have no input regarding permission to use their road for the race. He will have no knowledge about the agreement. The race is in 2013… there is no way the residents of that community will let bikers through the gate to pre-ride the course any time the want over the next year. In fact I doubt any pre-riding will be allowed. I feel certain they already secured permission for race day.
LOL, no kidding. Of course some low level rent-a-cop isn’t going to know any details about permissions on race day that’s over a year away. People will just need to live with the unknown until race day for that part of the course.
Please be advised that the bike portion of the course from the corner of Hwy 267 and Schaffer Mill Road through and including Mill Site Road is closed to any pre-race inspection by IRONMAN Lake Tahoe athletes. Please be advised that this is a closed neighborhood and we request your thoughtful consideration for our community partners.

GoPro’d the course 2 weeks ago (via car due to time constraints). I’m planning on including a crazy hill workout when getting to that portion of the course. According to the elevation map and just knowing northstar it could be a bit of a biatch back in there.
There’ll be a climb up to the base of Nstar and then a descent back to 267 to make the right turn into the Brockway climb.
I think it’s the map. It’ll be uphill but shouldn’t be half as steep as the Brockway climb unless Martis Camp did some really awful grading of their roads (which I doubt).
I rode the whole course last weekend. (friend lives in Martis Camp). I will post the GPS data when I get to a desktop.
How many not so hidden brags can one fit in two sentences? First, you are one of very, very few that have actually ridden the course. Two, you have a friend that lives in a $5M+ house. Lastly, you have a desktop. D!!!

The brackets were so that you didn’t assume that I lived there. I put water on fire, they barely let me in the gate as a guest…

The climb up Schaeffer mill road isn’t bad and it ends at a gate at Mill Site rd in Northstar. You can ride from that gate up the rest of the climb up by the Ritz Carlton. The Descent is a lot of fun. It has more relief and shorter than Brockway but grade felt about the same.
