Im ky

Anyone notice that the run took you past crack houses, street junkies soliciting female competitors and a petting zoo? That really brought a bit of a lift on the second loop return when life wasnt so grand!

I thought it was interesting.

wonder what they thought of all of us!

It was great, I didn’t even need to pick up my special needs bag!

Might have been a bad area but they were much more supportive of the runners than the people on the bike course. They were chearing go ironman etc…

There was a lady yelling at her 3 year old on my first loop to get the F_ _ k over here.

Coach Patrick of EN said there was a domestic violence incident out there near where he was standing.

The entire thing was bizarre. Homey the Clown yelling at a female runner how much he wanted to love on her( she took it in stride and laughed) and all within a mile of passing a petting zoo with ponies and geese going nuts. Throw the entire insanity of an IM on top of that and it really was bizaro world.

Why can’t I remember any of this!!?? I mean, I remember the bad parts of town. . but not the petting zoo.

It was set amongst the homes heading towards the turn around on the left hand side. The geese were screaming both times I passed! Too funny to look over and see ponies running around.

i somehow blocked out the petting farm, now i feel like i missed out. still, i thought it was a solid event and venue. now had it been hot like in '08 i would be singing a different song!

Well if you figure that the course passed between Churchhill downs and a college campus you have to figure that it is not exactly a high rent area.

BTW are you referring to the college as a petting zoo?
I mean it was the first weekend that all of the new freshmen were on campus and all…

Not unless they enroll ponies. Hmm.It is Kentcky so maybe it was the incoming freshman class running around all excited and stuff.

People see Churchill Downs on tv and think what a special place it is. What they fail to see is Churchill Downs is located in a dumpy part of Louisville. In fact, Louisville’s “porn district” is just a stones throw from Churchill Downs. At least the course does not venture into the west end were daily murders and drug activity is a normal part of everyday life. The Ironman run course could be so much better so why isn’t it?

btw… the run course uses the same roads as the Derby Festival Marathon as well as the Papa Johns 10 mile run (which used to be the 10 mile national championship). But these courses also utilize Iroquois Park. Why the Ironman course cannot go through Iroquois Park, instead of having the turn-around at the parks entrance, is a mystery to me.

Tracks are rarely located in the nice parts of town. Even in Del Mar, CA, is a crime hotspot when the races come to town.

I was cruising around on my MTB encouraging my friends during the run. I ran over a bunch of discarded syringes thrown on the road by disgruntled crack heads. I flatted 4X around mile 15 of the run course…

Last year a friend of mine got heckled by some homeless woman for walking. lol

Never noticed it but I guess because I run in memphis and just about anywhere you run here you have that along with that strange ammonia smell(either meth lab or someone took a leak in the bushs).
That and males soliciting males in public parks.

HAHA, I am glad you mentioned that. I had completely forgot about her. I definitely saw her heckling people and mumbling " SOB’s can’t even run the whole thing" ha or something to that nature. Good times

This is exactly why I am surprised when people talk about scenic bike or run courses. I have no recollection of any of the homes or people on porches or crack addicts cheering or jeering. I sort of remember passing Churchill Downs but other than that the only thing I looked for were the mile markers and aid stations and the turnaround points. I guess I need to relax a bit more, lighten up, and enjoy my “crack house” surroundings when I race

Because Iriqouis is a beast.
