I'm going to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico----Recomendations?

We leave in a few days; it’s our belated honeymoon, got married in Sept. Any recomendations from folks who have been? We plan to eat and drink a lot and sit on the beach, outside of that who knows.

We did the same thing … 10 years ago.

La Iguana has a nice cultural show, good meal, and well … drinks. I left stumbling with a new sombrero. We also did some horseback riding in the same terrain that parts of the movie “Predator” were filmed in. It was fun, but there were some parts where we were going through a narrow path in the mountains that I would have been comfortable carrying the horse. =)

It’s just beautiful scenery all over the place. We got an affordable hotel right on the beach, all-inclusive and their club sanwiches were awesome, and well … the mai tai’s and tequila sunrises were as good as expected (and most hotels have some fun pool bars, and evening dances, etc. It was a very romantic (err, I mean cool) location.

Be careful with the all inclusive drink package. We spent one day … all day … drinking on the beach, getting tan, and just enjoying the peace. We met up with another newlywed couple and did some bar-hopping that night. They showed up at our room at 9AM with mai tai’s in hand. I almost puked at the site of them … but quickly got past that (those MT’s are guuuuuhhhhuuuuud).

It was nice to have a Spanish-speaking bride because there are a lot of nice little shops in the downtown area and we picked up some Mexican/Aztec silver calenders, some authentic jewelry, some soccer jerseys, etc … at good prices … just be prepared to buy chicklets gum EVERYWHERE.

We also went venturing a bit and some unforgetable shots of poverty. I doubt I’ll ever forget those images.

Incidently, the flight to PV was very significant in my own life. Flying over large mountain ranges and circling around vast amounts of ocean really illuminated to me, just how insignificant one person (or one couple) of people are in this huge world.

I would like to go back to PV again sometime. Much better than Cabo San Lucas.

Old PV, Zona Romantica are not so Disneyed up and preferable in my opinion. The Zona Romantica has some nice dining. I love Maximillians and one of the few places you can get a Heineken, and, a hearty and stomach stabilizing, Dutch breakfast, Jansen & Johnson, both are on Olas Altos. An easy walk to/from Playa de los Muertos, the nicest beach in PV.

El arrayan, si senor, blue shrimp, and fajita banana are all pretty awesome restaurants.
I was sick during the pirate ship cruise which is sort of a neat show but I couldn’t enjoy it.
We went horseback riding in the mountains. It was a lot of fun if you like to ride. Rancho charro is where we went. It is owned by an american lady who was very nice. My wife and I own horses so we chose the 5 hour. If you don’t just go for the shorter ride.
We laid by our pool a ton. Stayed at a condo in the bay view grand it was really nice new and quiet. What I was surpised by in PVR is the number of canadian tourists.
It is nice, I hope to return someday. I was there for 10 days in late january of this year.

I forgot about the Bucaneer ship cruise … my first ever seeing whales in person.
