IM Austria (5)

Just completed last ‘big’ ride of training plan and now well and truly into taper for my first Ironman: IM Austria - 2 weeks today…

Any other Slowtwitcher’s doing this race?

I am in. have you done it before

Nope - I’m a first timer… Longest I’ve done to date is the Virgin London Sprint last September, so this distance should be interesting! I’ve been keeping up with the Don Fink intermediate plan (plus a bit more) as detailed on my blog, so have hopefully done enough to get me over the line.

How about you?

A few were identified as doing it (myself included) on this thread: http://forum.slowtwitch.com/cgi-bin/gforum.cgi?post=4595545;search_string=austria;#4595545. I’m looking forward to it in a ridiculously large manner.

I’ll be there. Second time for me.

Great! Good luck to all - enjoy your races - I can’t wait, especially after reading all the race reports in the other thread!

I will be there, whether I can race or not is to be determined, I tore my left plantar fascia two Sundays ago :frowning:
.

Oh man! :frowning: I feel your pain - best wishes for a speedy recovery. Hope you make it ok.

Theres ALOT of us flying out from Edinburgh airport on the Thursday. Should be good

Hahahah - we’ll see you there in that case. My wife and I are flying out from Edinburgh next Thursday too - just hope the excess luggage guys can cope with all the bike boxes

I’ll be the worried/hype excited looking bloke with a black ‘bike box alan’ case with Boardman logos all over it!

Ive not done this one before I am really looking forward to it.

Ive heard that the first 30k of the bike is flat and fast then the rest of the route has some climbs but you can get enough speed on the descents
to make it back up the next climb. Results in a fast bike ride.

My advice is to take it really easy on the bike if you feel like your taking it easy back off a bit!

Well, I hope all my fellow IM Austria competitors enjoyed the race as much as I did!

Had a great time on the swim after freaking out for the first 5 mins, bike was steady and consistent… probably could have gone a lot faster but saving legs for run. Run started well but I ended up doubling over with stomach cramps after about 10k which meant I needed to revert to run / walk which was a tad frustrating…

Still, I got over the line in my first IM…. now to keep on training hard over the next year and see if I can smash that time
