IM Arizona Logistics

All,

I am thinking of doing IM Arizona and it seems like the logistics of the race are a little different then other IM that I have done. Do many people drive to the start or do people stay close enough to walk?

If people drive, how difficult is it to park.

What else do I need to know logistically.

Thanks in advance for all your help,

Neal

That is a tiny town. Get a room at Courtyard Marriott and you don’t need a car at all.

Actually, even if you stay a few miles away (agree that the Marriott is well located, but popular for that reason), they’ve got plenty of parking nearby in a number of lots. Stayed on Scottsdale Road and the drive in two times took less than ten minutes, parked in the US Air Bldg one building away from the finish chute. Otherwise, it seems like a pretty standard race (only IM i’ve done) from a logistical standpoint

Added - many hotels also have shuttles race morning. We stayed at Hampton Inn, they have a shuttle, but we chose to drive

I’ll agree with Swimfan. The Courtyard is an easy few minutes walk from transition. I stay there whenever I race in Tempe.

And a lot cheaper than host hotel.

Thanks for the info. I am thinking of jumping into a community slot for November and a lot of hotels are taken, so I am trying to figure out what to do.

Probably plenty of hotels or condos for rent if you go out a few miles. Parking/driving was very easy when we did the race. We stayed up in Scottsdale which seemed nicer than the race area…

I had a Marriott suite about 15 minute out of town. A week to the race I called back again the host hotel and Marriott Tempe Courtyard. Both had multiple rooms. As I was checking in to Courtyard on Wednesday a family walked in and asked if there are ny rooms. guess what? They got a room. Lots of people book 2-3 hotel rooms and they drop them a week before. I wish hotels did the same as IM. Charge the damn credit card as soon as you make the reservation! There wouldn’t be so much “sold out hotels”

Just got back from LP and sure enough my hotel did charge in full a year ago. Make sense to everyone, becuase even if they just take a deposit, if someone bails last minute the hotel is out the rest of that money.

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like I can get something close or further away, it shouldn’t matter.

While we are on the topic, I have done LP, Wisconsin, Brasil, Canada, CDA, Austria and Frankfurt. How does the Arizona course compare?
