Anyone use a treadmill with the ifit program? since i just got a computrainer, my gf wants a treadmill so she can use the ifit program. I’m trying to do some research before we end up with a piece of crap treadmill. Anyone got any treadmill recommendations? or any input about ifit??? thanks inadvance.
i shopped for a year. i looked at and ran on at least 30 different TM’s. My wife and I ended up with a Nordick Track Commercial 1750 w/ifit. WE LOVE IT. I have not used ifit yet but my wife has and she is linked up online. Personally, I know the workout that I want to do and I do not need a computer to help me.
As for the TM, it’s sturdy and fullfills my needs for speed and incline. It has one touch. So if I want to run intervals and go from 7mph to 12mph, I just touch 12. No arrows. If I want to run 10.3mph, I push 10+3 and there I go. This is my favorite part. The price is right when you compare all of the nutts and bolts.
thats the one shes looking at, can you ask your wife if you have to pay for thr ifit service or can you load courses like the computrainer?.. may have just saved me a year of searching.

Are you on quantum’s payroll? Just kidding of course
I’m guessing you didn’t shop around much…the quick keys for speed and incline are widely available on many many treadmills…so are presets that allow you to set your most used speeds so you can go there with one touch. Not uncommon at all.
Talk to me after 6-8 years and multiple service calls, I’d be curious your opinion then.

If I can keep my wife on it for 7 years, it will be worth the damn fees. I bought the same thing. It’s sturdy enough for me and responds well to quick changes in speed and elevation. iFit is kind of cool and it comes with the purchase of the treadmill. I plan to program in the elevation of IMLP from the oval to the left hand turn before the bridge and see how well the elevation responds.
Let me also throw in that I wouldn’t get a treadmill based on iFit. Look online for refurbished LifeFitness 95t machines. They are awesome.

Nothing against Life Fitness, I sell plenty of them to the right people. However, their suspension is extremely soft for runners who also run on pavement.
In addition, the refurbished ones only come with a 2 year warranty (last time I checked). Even their mid level residential treadmill (which is very similar in many ways) has a lifetime frame, 10yr motor, and 7 yr wear parts/electronics warranty.

so what treadmill would you recommend?
I bought the C1500 over New Years weekend and have put almost 100 miles on it in two weeks. I have run three runs 10-12 miles, a few around 8 miles and a few runs around 4 miles. I hooked up the ifit module too.
As far as the treadmill goes… really nice. No vibrating or shaking. Very stable. It’s quiet. The speakers absolutely SUCK, and the fan doesn’t cut it. The display only shows mph or kmph, not pace. I have not found it to bog down or anything like that. I have experienced it feeling like it has sped up very slightly for a few seconds during long runs. I don’t know if that is due to it actually speeding up slightly or just my perception while fatigued. The deck is a beauty to run on and the one touch speed & incline feature is sweet. No more pushing the increase/decreas buttons repeatedly to change speed/incline. If I want to run at 6.3 mph, I just press 6 then 3 and it is at 6.3 mph.
iFit… There are a bunch of Jilian Michaels workouts and 8-12 week plans. The plans run the gammut for the couch potato to well conditioned runners. I haven’t used any of them (and doubt I will), but for some it may be cool. There are a number of actual race courses you can run, from the 5k to 26.2 of many of the country’s most popular races. You can also run a variety of real routes such as the Vegas strip, NY Central Park, Paris, and others. There are also several 8-12 week training plans for the race distance of your choice. The reason I bought it was for the ability to map your own course with Google maps. I’ve mapped out my summer races and run the courses a couple times. If your race course has been photoed by Google Street View, you can watch the actual scenery of your run on your laptop screen. The deck will adjust incline and decline (up to 15° and -3°) in relation to the elevation/grade alignment that Google maps has recorded.
You can also track your workouts and diet through the iFit website and iphone app, albeit that feature is geared toward the weight watchers crowd and worthless to me. Those software features seem very basic in my opinion
For my assessment, I’m very happy with the treadmill. I run outside as much as possible, so this treadmill won’t get much use outside of winter and the severe spring rain storms. For me, the iFit is cool, but I won’t ever use much more than the map my own run feature and running the programmed routes. It does help break the monotony being able to run in Chicago while in my basement watching netflix.
Every treadmill thread digresses into strong opinions on treadmill brand. It usually does not matter even what the treadmill question is. The opinions of people that sell high end treadmills are usually some of the most passionate. Maybe they know better. But I am not convinced.
I don’t know if my experience is typical or not. About 14 years ago, I am not exactly sure when, we purchased a ProForm treadmill from Sears. I think we paid about $1000. In the 14 years never did any maintenance on it of any kind. We also had a real problem with our dog peeing on it. Not exactly sure why. I have always done more running on the treadmill than running outside. I know I am crazy, but I like watching TV while running. Ran 20 miles on it on several occasions. My wife and daughter also used the treadmill often. About a year ago it stopped working. When taking it apart to get out of the basement I could not believe how much crap was inside the thing.
So I purchased a new treadmill and had to decide if one of the top brands was worth the 2x - 3x price. I ultimately decided on a Epic View 550 from Costco for $995. It gets used daily by someone in the family, I have a big family. Will it last 14 years? Will I actually take care of it? I honestly don’t know but I just could not find anything to compare a top brand to this brand that justified the extra cost. This treadmill has a lifetime warranty on motor, frame, etc.
Now to your question. The Epic 550 does have the ifit and originally planned on using it but have ended up not making use of it. I do think it is an interesting concept.
The Ifit software appealed to my GF because she will be training for her first mararthon. I was kindda hoping it’d be like the computrainers real course videos but i doubt it. i will read about the c1500.

Completely depends on the users, their routine, the space you have, your future goals, joint issues, etc. Often I will chat with someone for a half an hour before actually showing them any given product. This benefits both me and the customer, sometimes they come in with a certain top brand in mind because they think their 20mi/wk is alot, and I may even show them a lesser price tread that suits their needs even better.
Life Fitness is an incredibly cushioned treadmill- this can be great to protect some people’s knees, etc. There are also alot of what I call cardio runners, who only run on treadmills and are most comfortable on Life Fitness.
Because of the huge contrast between LF and running no any paved surface, I typically don’t recommend it if any of the users will be running outside during the warm months.
Landice (among a certain few others) has a great firm feel that many runners and triathletes love.

We just bought the Sole F80 and we love it so far. It’s sturdy, as some treadmills we tested were pretty wobbly and were noisy. The F80 is very quite compared to others. One touch controls for speed and incline. Has a great cushioned deck, Lifetime warranty and motor, deck, and frame.
We looked at the Nordic Tracks also but heard from many dealers that the tend to crap out after a couple of years and require lots of maintenance.

first off, BOOM-I am running about 60 miles per week. I am hoping that my treadmill lasts 4 years. If I get that, I will be happy. And, my wife loves ifit. Nordicktrack throws in 1 year for free. Most of the programs that are on ifit are to slow or to low for me. I end up speeding them way up and just about recreating the whole thing.
As for physiojoe, I am a teach art and lifeguard and I don’t sell sh!t. If you could read that the reason that recomment it is “The price is right when you compare all of the nutts and bolts.” My favorite part is the 1 touch and yes “I did see this on a lot of other brands.”
I first used this treadmill in a gym and was stuck on it. I shopped but i kept going back to nordicktrack. After a couple months and over 600 miles (my wife is around 250) we are stoked with it.
ps: I bought direct from NT and was able to get their gx2 spin bike for very cheep. I said, “if I buy this TM, will you throw in the GX2?” they said no, but they gave it to me for very cheep! I put my look-peds on it and I am doing my winter bricks in a warm room on brand new equipment!!!
goodluck…
my little anecdotal experience is I have been waiting for my local gym to replace the screens on two of these treadmills for what seems to be months now! Not sure if its a common problem, but two of the same machine are down simultaneously…makes me wonder if its a theme with these. Other than that, I loved them when they work…not really sure how long the gym has had them operating or how many hourse then have…so take it for what its worth.
