If you were putting on a race

that only had two turns for the entire circuit, do you think you would sweep the gravel off the roads before the first race, or wait until the first person crashed, and then do it? LAME!!! I’ll leave the nice ass/hip shot out, but for sure, that area is going to be needing bandages for a while. …another pair of bibs down the drain…sucks…

And for the record, everything else was very smooth with the race. It was great and I’ll likely be back next year. In the pre-race craziness somebody probably just forgot to get out there because there were too many other things to do, at least they had brooms on hand and jumped out there before we even came around again.

My 1st thought was “eeeeek, he shaves his arms!!!”.

But then I realized that perhaps you have some magical powers to know when bad things might happen…

I’m saving all my diggers for CX season!

Once I shaved my legs it just kind of spread, or rather, disappeared from there. Legs, arms, chest, face, everything must go! It looks kind of weird with a half shaved body, I mean, tan lines are one thing, but hairlines are taking freaky looking to another level. As it turned out, it was for the best, although maybe if I was hairier I would have felt slower and not broken away and been riding like the devil was chasing me?

Met a gal last week…and started talking. She mentioned that she has all of her boyfriends shave “everything” (minus the head) b/c she has some weird fobia of body hair.

She’s darn cute, maybe I could set you up!

Did you need stitches for the hand? How’d it feel to scrub out the lil pebbles?

if you were to ride in a race that only had two turns for the entire circuit, do you think you would try to ride the course to see if, gee, there are any hazards on the roads, like maybe gravel?

i like my skin. i like my skin intact and unbloody a lot. if it were me, i’d avoid the gravel or complain to the RD or not do the race or sweep the bloody course myself. otherwise it appears you are gonna be having a lot of pretty scars…

Sweet, I’m single, would she happen to live in the Northern Hemisphere, preferably North America?

I’m not sure if I’ll need stitches, I probably should have gone in to see someone, but sitting in the ER for 4 hours or whatever it takes didn’t sound so appealing, so I just butterflied it. As for scrubbing/using tweezers to get out the pebbles, I guess it’s not as intense as VO2 work.

Well, Manhattan Beach is kind of a bigtime race, I just thought they would have covered that base. It would have been nice to take a bunch of laps and really get a good vibe for the course, but they didn’t want us out there until we were actually racing. There was a pretty big crash in the women’s race that was going on simultaneously as well, although it happened on one of the straightaways. I talked to the girl who got second in that race and she tells me “yeah, one of the tri girls started weaving over…” That made me laugh.

Anyway, I probably will end up with plenty of pretty scars before I’m done here.

Damn. I was eating…

Any one want a partially eaten bag of popcorn?

If a person shaves his legs in part to deal more effectively with road rash, then it makes complete sense to shave the arms as well. The pictures demonstrate that road rash is an equal-opportunity destroyer, not at all partial to legs only.

Please tell me you wern’t number 728. The pics of him on Cycling news were just scary. Sorry to hear of your crash

Joe, that looks bad

Nope, #948. It sure felt like that looks though. Solo, and doing some type of mock gymnastic sommersault move with a degree of difficulty rating probably being very low, plus major points knocked off for not pointing my toes or sticking the landing. I did jump up and remount within about 10 seconds though, after fetching my PT computer. Plus, according to my friend there who was at that turn, I scored major “holy shit!” points when I was off the front again within a lap and a half of crashing and being relegated to last in the process. I let up because I thought they were catching me, though it turns out I had decieved myself, as several guys who finished near the top told me they weren’t able to make up any ground on me until I sat up. It’s deceiving when you just take quick looks back and the pack looks so close when they are on the other side of the turn. Wish I had one of those fancy ear piece radios so I’d of known. Still took second though.

Pretty sweet picture of the aftermath…
