If you could choose only one

As I come out of basement/trainer hibernation and into the sunshine - I have to look ahead to next winter’s training in the basement. I currently ride a mag trainer (inadequate) - so, if you could choose only one system as an upgrade would you choose a Computrainer OR a PowerTap with a high-end fluid trainer? Cost is about the same but the advantage I see (having never used either) is that you could take you PowerTap with you when you leave the basement and have this as a training tool on the road. Any thoughts / experiences?

wait, are you reading my mind?..

what am i thinking right now?!

I have the Computrainer Pro 3D. This past winter I used it in stand-alone mode and rode by wattage for the entire winter. The previous winter I did watch spin-scan and rode different courses. I think I got stronger faster by doing prescribed wattage workouts from my coach. So, since I’m not using all the ‘extras’ of the CT, I would have been better off getting the PT and using it on my 1-UP. And now that it is nice out, I’m thinking of buying a PT…

Andy, What’s a one up?

Powertap hands down.

You will be able to use it outside and in your races too.

You can cope with the boredom by watching movies (like the rest of us CT-less people).

Hey Julian!

1-UP is a really good trainer that I’m tired of being on…

rmur, but after all of that great information you gather all winter long on your CT with regards to power - you wouldn’t want the option to take it on the road (power info) with you when you emerge to the outside world? Remember, you can have only one. If you can have both for $1500 - then yes, this would be an option.

Hey Julian,

Looks like Richard already gave you the link. Awesome trainer!!!

Also, been meaning to PM you… thanks alot for hooking me up with your LBS. They got me the helmet I wanted. Appreciate it!
