Let us assume Jack did dope. I am not saying he did, but IF he did, why does it matter? I think it matters a whole lot. Many others seem to say that it doesn’t matter because everyone else in the Cat4 field did. I kinda buy that from a sports point of view, because in many way it was a level playing field. The guy with the best talent for cycling AND doping would win. Jackmott might have been very talented on both dimensions.
However, from an ethical point of view, I do believe it matters a whole lot. If he did dope, managed to pass approx 0 tests and his team mates were doping as well, it was intentional and systematic fraud. This intentional and systematic fraud not only brought him 1 sub 60 mimute 40k but it probably also was the foundation for building his slowtwich fame. I strongly doubt that if he had been a strong domestique, he would have been able to build the Jackmott reputation as successfull, attract sponsors, make the bike shop so succcessfull etc etc.
Imagine person X. Person X is cheating and manipulating and benefiting grossly from it. He makes other people and companies take decisions that they might not have taken otherwise. What would you feel about such a person? What usually happens to such persons or companies when their fraud is discovered? Although their fraud occured 10 days back, should they be forgiven for their fraud?
My view: IF he did dope, it was intentional violent fraud and scam. Such fraud should not be left unpunished and it makes me sick thinking about that IF he doped, everything he has created has been build based on a lie and he has cheated soooo many people and companies.
jack lives in Austin. Austin is the dope smoking capital of Texas. However, that kind of dope makes you slower and gives you the munchies. So if Jack is on that kind of dope, he is probably a Cat 3 racer sandbagging it by doping… I’ll start looking for Jack in the Whataburger drive thru at 2am on that Cervelo.
