Hey Folks -
I’m looking to get a mountain bike to commute and do errands in.
A lot of the times that I want to head out on errands, there’s a pretty big stretch of cobblestone, that I’m tired of riding my old 12-speed on.
Mostly looking for used bikes sitting around people’s basements… but I’ve no idea what size I shoudl be getting, seeing as it all seems to be in inches.
Would I be a 19? Does that seem like the equivalent of a 52?
Thanks,
-Charles
Without seeing how you are proportioned, I would say 16/17/Medium. A 19 would likely be way big.

if by proportioned, you mean leg length to torso, i’m pretty standard.
I would recommend going a bit smaller for a MTB…a 16 or Small depending on your riding style and terrain.
well, i’m getting it for errands and commuting.
terrain = roads with potholes, cobblestones, traffic.
I too ride a 52 cm road bike and had Ted Wojcik build me a custom Wojcik. After all was said and done it was between a 16 and a 17. Fits like a glove. Before that I had a Klein Rascal medium which translated to a 17-18 and it was a touch long.
I ride a 52 tri-bike, and have had 50cm and medium (compact frame) road bikes. My last MTB was a Specialized Stumpjumper FSR in a medium (~17") that was too big. Last year I bought a Small Santa Cruz Superlight that fits much better.
