Considering you have a 2 car garage with normal garage stuff, Tool Boxes, Bikes, Garage Fridge, etc.
What do you all think is the ideal size TV for winter training. I put a 32" flatpanel last winter but its a bit small when mounted on wall and a bit too high for bike, but great for treadmill. I am thinking of building a rolling stand for a bigger TV but what do you all think is ideal? Not too big but big enough to enjoy computrainer / wahoo video, movies etc for longer rides.
I’ve got a 20+ year old 25" tube TV in my garage.
I think it’s enough.
I was thinking about getting a ~24" flat screen on black Friday, so I’ll take your 32" when you upgrade.
I never train inside, I use the TV when I’m prepping/cleaning/repairing bikes etc
As big as you can get so the riders in the sufferfest videos are life size :). I used to use a 47 inch TV for trainer rides and thought it was a bit small (it is hard to get at the right height for different types of viewing), and I think those are less than 500 now at Costco. YMMV. You could also use it as a second monitor for your laptop when fixing stuff in your garage and need to follow directions from a video.
I think your question is indicative of a different issue…how we as consumers think bigger is better.
32" tv is fine for nearly all situations. The only reason you are having tv envy is because you know they go up to 80" now. So your looks tiny compared to all the others. (Insert phallic joke here).
So unless you have a large space, stick with the 32" tv as it mets your needs. I have a workout station that is probably 8’ x 16’. I have a 24" computer monitor. Sure i would like to mount a tv on the wall but it is overkill. The monitor isn’t a primary viewing device.
(Fwiw, my only other tv in the house is only 42". No issue there either).
I played around with the TV position a bit and found about 2 feet off the ground is right for our set up. Allows you to watch it on the tri bike and maintain your normal head position. Might not be ideal for a garage though.
I’ve got a 50" mounted lowish in my workout room. Seems to do the trick nicely. Audio was my big issue. I wound up getting a headphone amplifier and now I can see AND hear everything. If my setup were in the garage, I’d also consider getting a projector and mounting it to the ceiling somewhere. Then you could have a 120" screen.
Agree its part personal opinion. Its to use with tri bike so ideal height for ergo etc as someone touched on is helpful.
Today the bike is probably 8-10 feet away from TV on wall at about 6ft height as it was originally intended for treadmill. That really doesn’t work with tri bike on trainer. Sure I could take it off the wall and try to get a stand and put it a few feet in front of bike etc but trying to find a solution that works for both. The only reason I went with the 32 was because it was a spare for inlaws when they are in town
