ICE Friction Chain

What is an ICE Friction Chain? Does it save you watts? What does it cost?

I’ve seen a few pros mention it on their blogs but can’t find much via google and did a search on the forum as well (so I apologize if there are lots of threads on this - couldn’t find them).

Thank you! I was even on the ruster website earlier. I am just no good at the internet.

For fun if you could get that 8 extra watts at Kona this year (assuming an original 214 watt target) you are talking about ~ 5 min gain.

I’ve been trying to figure out more about their company too. I wonder if it’s any better than the Ceramic Speed UFO Chain? I think the ICE Chain can last more miles than Ceramic Speed

They haven’t put too much out about it, but I think there was a post from TJ saying you can go 600 miles on it before it needing to be “re-iced”. Which made it sound like the chain can be retreated.

I think you have to send it back to get optimized again. That’s 400 miles more than the Ceramic Speed chain!

Wow is that expensive. Certainly would make a nice gift. (to me)

Friction Facts tested my chain at 4.35 watts and I think an unoptimized chain is at about 7. I don’t think there are 8 watts to be saved unless it is over a worn out rusty old chain off a WalMart bike.

Your right re the shitty chain… but look around, many tri bikes are steaming piles of unloved turd…
I bet there is 7 watts out there for some… Walmart or otherwise…
