Barack Obama took the next big step in his Republican charm offensive on Tuesday night, when he dined with several of the nation’s most prominent conservative pundits.

The president-elect arrived at the Chevy Chase, Md., home of syndicated columnist George Will shortly after 6:30 p.m., according to a press pool report. Greeting him at the residence were other luminaries of the conservative commentariat, including the Weekly Standard’s William Kristol, New York Times columnist David Brooks, and Charles Krauthammer of the Washington Post.

What was interesting is they kept the curtains open so the cameras showed Obama shaking hands with all these guys. Talk about a deliberate set up for the media. So maybe Obama scores some points, but what do those guys get out of it besides a column? Also, what the heck did they talk about at dinner?

Obama: “Dude, your party fucked things up royally these past eight years.”
George Will: “Yeah, it sucks. But we are going to do our best to blame you and the Dems for all of it for the next four years.”

meh, I think Obama is the happiest man on earth. Immanual said something to the effect of “you can’t miss the OPPORTUNITY of a crisis”. It is exactly that for the dems, between years (Obama’s words) of trillion dollar deficits, and tax raises, there will be money to completely remake America. Interesting times for sure.

I too would have found that very interesting. I may not agree with George Will 100% of the time, but he is very insightful and on target much more than most of the mainstream commentators. And can you imagine a frank exchange between him and Obama over the latter’s policy directions…wow.

Edit to add: Of course, if Obama really wanted to change the subject, he could deflect the conversation into baseball.
