I got a sample of the EAS ‘Race Recovery’ stuff at the shorty Tri at Bonelli last weekend. I thought I’d mix it up to try after my ride this morning. Took a quick trip to Mt Wilson this morning (~4500 ft climbing over ~18 miles.) and back. Got back to my car, put my bike in, pulled out the drink, got in the car., started driving, took a swig…HOLY HORSE URINE! After drinking the whole thing, I had to drink some cytomax just to recover from the ‘Recovery’ drink. I can still taste it, even after some dark chocolate. I’ve gotta figure something to get the taste out of my mouth. Compared to this Endurox tastes delicious.
That may be the best recovery drink ever, but holy whatever, who’s gonna drink it. It might make you vomit just from the taste, the aftertaste, the after-after-taste.
It is very strong. But it works better than most others I’ve tried that taste better. If you won’t drink it, then by all means try something else. But if you can stand it, I’ve not found much better for recovery.
You’re a braver man than I. Made it four drinks and that was it. Considered throwing the water bottle out with it because I didn’t want to ever taste that again.
“took a swig…HOLY HORSE URINE! After drinking the whole thing”
Over the years I have tried many of these various sports beverages and products and I have said/felt the same things many times - yuck! Not sure what these companies were thinking. Good old water, with fresh squeezed lemon and a banana has been a long time favourite of mine.
I tried it today at the Spring Sprint Du/Tri at Fiesta Island/Mission Bay in San Diego. It tastes terrible. I could not walk to the trash fast enough. Two sips was all I could muster. My company PowerBar does have a Recovery Drink and it tastes pretty good, gets you some protein. It has some milk based protein so it is not like chugging the endurance sport drink. But it does taste good. The EAS was bad. How good for you does it have to be to put up with that swill taste?
I was really thirsty and a few miles from home, and the drink was in the car, and I didn’t want to wait. I will say that I felt pretty good today, despite some pretty tough LT intervals on the way up. I don’t know that it’s better than others.
Dude, are you kidding. I raced with the Endurathon and Catapult today at St. Croix today. The taste in the Endurathon is something you have to get used too. I think its the Ribose. The Race Recovery took me a few days to get used too as well. The Catapult is one of the best. Once I got used too it I wouldn’t use anything else. Have you seen the stuff thats inside it, some pretty hefty nutrition. Someone told me about the stuff a few months ago and I’ve been hooked for a while now. Anyway, I went sub 4:45 today so I guess I’m doing something right. Don’t discard it too quick just because it doesn’t taste like cool-aid.
