I noticed like others that my battery on my 955 would drain by double digits each day. I got an update and decided after charging it to just turn it off for a day. I wore my Fenix 6 and then decided to throw the 955 back on.
Suddenly my battery is lasting just like my Fenix 6 is. The first day my charge was at 99% all day, then at night I turned it off again and turned it back on and it was back to 100. After a solid week I am at 84% and that includes at least 3 workouts on it.
I had this issue last summer or fall . . . even started a thread here about it. Mine did go away months ago. While the issue was ongoing I got around it by just turning off the phone connection except when I wanted it to sync because every time I looked at the watch the sync/refresh icon was turning and I surmised that was the reason for the battery drain. I wonder if it can be caused the phone itself? Bluetooth on my phone is pretty crap. I measure my HRV with a BT strap every morning, and ~1 in 3 days I have to turn the BT off on my phone and back on to get the strap to work.
Yeah, Garmin’s definitely need a shut down and restart after updates - had massive drain on my old 945 when i didn’t. My 955 has been really good tbh
official statement from garmin is no restart is required… YMMV
from my experience, restarts in general often defer a bug but there doesn’t seem to be anything special about restart after an update. regardless, you get issues after a few days and might defer them again with a restart… but only for a few days. charging seems to have a similar effect.
i think my battery drain issues might finally be stopped too. there have been many bugs responsible for battery drain on the 955. after going through my logs garmin said they had fixed the bug i was hitting in a release about a month ago. i was still getting high drain though as i was hitting another bug related to a specific strava segment that woldn’t sync properly. i’ve unstarred that (so workarond rather than fix of the bug) and it seems ok so far.
they fixed the swim sync issue a while back and say they have a fix coming up for the incorrect timezone handling that affects a number of things so its just possible that within a year of purchase i might have a properly functioning watch for the first time!
