I need the best margarita recipe and a decent tequila to use with it

Tequila needs to be reasonably priced, not high end.

Preference for on the rocks recipes rather than smoothie recipes.

I will try the recipes and declare a winner.

And… go.

Go where?

Sorry, that phrase triggers me.

Go to a forum with unicorns that shit rainbows?

Sorry, snowflake. Can’t help you.

Fuck off wanker

2 ounces blanco tequila

1/2 ounce orange liqueur

1 ounce lime juice, freshly squeezed

1/2 ounce agave syrup

3 ounces tequila
2 ounces orange liquor
1 ounce lime juice

This if no agave

Where does one find agave syrup?

My fav recipe-
1 shot Hornitos Reposado tequila (super cheap at Costco, under $40 for 1.75L) I prefer the added flavor from a Reposado or añejo in a marg rather than a silver/plata.
1/4-1/2 shot Solerno* blood orange liqueur ( it’s quite sweet, I tend to go closer to 1/4 rather than 1/2 unless I know the drinker likes sweet)
1 1/2-2 shots tres agaves marg mix (or simple truth brand from Ralph’s, same stuff), same comment regarding sweetness from above
Juice from 1/2 lime
*Solerno is the key. I (and dozens of my friends who swear I make the best margs) find it waaaaay better than triple sec, grand marnier, or any other orange liqueur for making a great marg.
Enjoy!

You’re disqualified for using margarita mix

Monty needs to chime in because his Montyritas are very good.

Costco can’t sell alcohol here. But it sounds like ‘use the cheapest crap you can find’.

Not super cheap, but you can get everything at costco and that makes it reasonable.

Get the Kirkland tequila(always top shelf, I think usually Patron, anejo) Get your limes, and then a bottle of Gran marnier.

2 parts tequila
1 part gran marnier
2 parts fresh squeezed lime juice

Of course this is heavy on the lime, but I love me my vitamin C and tartness. I also like a bit of salt and all this shaken and over the rocks…

Enjoy, it sneaks up on you too…

Not at all …their booze is brand name relabeled

Patron is decent

I do:

1:1:1 tequila/orange liqueur/lime juice
salted rim
rocks
.

Winning formula. Simple and great. What is annoying is this is called a “skinny margarita” at restaurants now. I dislike margarita mix so they make me feel like I’m ordering the diet margarita.

Monty’s is way heavy on lime for my taste.

2 oz tequila
.75 orange liqueur
1 oz lime
.5 ounce agave

1800 is cheap, Patron is my go to for tequila, like the peppery flavor. But even better is to infuse the tequila with jalapeño and poblano. Casamigos is more vanilla, Don Julio kind of sweeter and fruitier.

Use Grand Marnier or Cointreau unless you are cheap then try De Kuyper Triple Sec.

My favorite subs .5 oz of mezcal in for .5 oz of the tequila. Banhez is a decent lower priced. But Del Maguey Vida Single Village is worth the splurge.

Life is too short to drink shit liquor. If someone tells you the liquor doesn’t matter in a margarita never take bartending advice from that person.

So we’re off a quarter ounce of grand Marnier
