I need a "beater-bike"

I broke the bank a few years back and bought a KM40 with all the bells and whistles and love it - 1 problem. I have a trailer for to pull my 2 kids along with me but the clamp for the trailer is not big enough to fit over the KM40 frame.

So, I need another bike. Either Road or tri - I don’t care. Just something to pull the kids along for a couple of hours a week.

Can anyone help me out? Anyone have an extra bike hanging in their rafters that they don’t use anymore?

I have a small budget so need to be creative. I spent Sat am driving around from garage sale to garage sale but no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a burley trailer for pulling me kids. I was able to get a different hitch that fits any bike. It replaces the rear skewer, so I can pull them on my P3.

Either get that, or check out ebay. Go to the complete bikes for road, mtb or comfort section, then list be location. I got a real nice mongoose to put my kids seats on for $25. Some people don’t want to ship bikes, so you can get lucky sometimes.

Do you have a local bike co-op near your area? I’ve built up beater commuter bikes from these places before. You can put together a decent bike that won’t fall apart for less than a hundred bucks.

Where do you live? If in Michigan (Lansing area is where I’m at) I have an 18" MTB you can have if you swing by and pick it up. My wife and I have been moving it from house to house for a while now.

Are there no flea markets near you??? I think the going rate is $1 per speed (StingRay - $1, Raleigh 3-speed $3, 15-speed MTB - $15)

craigslist.com

if you are near a city of any particular size.

and here I thought this was going to be some awful post about a bike rednecks used on their wives…man am I relieved

This is a damn good deal on a frame. Depending on how many extra parts you have laying aournd you can probably get it together fairly cheaply.
