I’m officially a civilian!

Congratulations. Now, tell us more about the lone gunman in '63.

Time to spill all the beans… Is there evidence of UFOs at Area 51?

The wife, 59 years old, has always said she didn’t want to retire. We are halfway through our time off at Christmas with no obligations and she has decided that maybe not being obligated to be anywhere at a set time is kind of nice.

I’ve always wondered if we would work past 62. Right now we aren’t in a hurry to retire but I have a feelin once it becomes possible it won’t take long to pull the trigger.

Mrs. mck414 and I both have a few more years left before we can safely semi-retire. Getting the house paid off is our last hurdle, after that we will not owe a nickel to anyone.

She won’t start drawing her penion until 62 so she’ll likely work as a substitute teacher until then, that way she can work when and where she wants. I’ve already got my pension and some disability coming in so I’m more than comfortable going back to baggin groceries for a couple years until I can draw social security (assuming it’s still there

Congratulations!!

Woohoo! Congrats!

congrats. Appreciate your service to this great country. I hope you remain entertaining.

Congratulations on getting through the gauntlet of your work life. Now you will have to navigate the one of your health…Did you benefit from the just passed SSI law on WEP?? I imagine a lot of us worked outside jobs in our lives, just a matter if you did that for 10 years…

Regardless you got a great pension, one of the last dinosaurs of this era, now go and make it proud…

congrats. what i most feared was a lack of relevance. turns out i’m very happy to be irrelevant. i think you chose a good moment for this.

Congratulations and great timing. Thank you for fighting the good fight.

Monty, that didn’t affect me. FBI Agents are forbidden from outside employment barring some exceptions that require executive management approval.

All people are different people. I can’t wait to be not relevant, and not needed.

Thanks, Dan. All I really want to do is get back to racing again. I’m looking forward to training whenever I want.

Yes, I got out at a perfect time. I do not like the way the political winds are swirling around my now former employer.

Would not affect feds under the FERS retirement. The old CSRS had a larger pension as those folks did not pay into SS. FERS started in 1987, so there aren’t many working CSRS employees left (one of my coworkers just has 55 years with the government). We FERS pay into SS, so our retirement is part SS, 401k (TSP), and pension.

Congrats. Well earned. Thanks for the years of service.

Now that you’re free, tell us what you really think!

Congrats. It will take some time to adjust to finding worthwhile things to stay active with. But it takes very little time to adjust to not having the pressure of a job, a boss, customers, clients and deadlines.

I recommend you start an exercise routine. Health is paramount and having time to exercise without balancing a job is nice.

Of course, but I was more referring to jobs you may have worked before, not knowing of course what age you started. I started working at 15 years old, so had a lot of quarters in from restaurants and other during school employment. And even during my time earning my pension, I was in a couple commercials that ran for 4 years, so that was a big gimme towards getting outside time in.

Retirement has been absolute shit so far. Been sick as a dog and in bed for three days. Only time I’ve been out of the bedroom or kitchen was for the Saturday evening trip to urgent care. Covid and flu negative so some random seasonal cold that is kicking my ass.

Whatever is out there is kicking everyone’s ass. I was on all last week in the hospital. Lots of folks sick with OG (non-SARS) coronavirus, Parainfluenza, even some Rhinovirus. Folks with asthma or COPD obviously higher risk. But seemed like a little sicker a little longer than usual.

You sort out your shoulder plan?

I do not need surgery. Thank goodness. I have some arthritis and some other issue that, and I might butcher the medical facts here, is causing synovial fluid to leak into my shoulder. Which caused severe inflammation and gave me symptoms very similar to a SLAP tear.

Cortisone shot into the affected area and I feel perfectly fine.
