I´m asked to help develop tri clothing

Hi.

Like i said in the subject line a company asked me if i´m interested to help them develop tri clothing for them. I have my own ideas how i want my clothes but i would like to know what you want from your race gear?

A nice wide chamois like the Craft, but NO SEAM under the pad, only at the edges of the pad. Short shorts as well as compression shorts to above the knee. Breathable.

Nice cool porous top with a long zipper for hot races.
A different top for cooler races.

Women’s bike shorts that put a slightly thicker pad on the sides of the chamois to compensate for saddles like the Adamo.

Women’s tops should be constructed of 1 ply material. The material should be thin and white so that the woman stay cool.

I think you refer to the the tops women were in a Wet T-shirt contest… but thanks for the advise anyway

I hoped to get some serious answers… people here seems to have opinions about how everything can be better, this must be the case with race clothes too.

I have a suggestion for women’s tops. Many full length tri tops do not have a built in bra, so we have to wear a jog bra underneath. A built-in bra would be great.

Ditto - built-in bras are good! But they need to be snug.

and most of these types of tops have pockets as big as postage stamps. sometimes my sports bra turns into a pocket due to lack of real storage space. Doesn’t work too well for a long ride or a race! I need pocket space for money, cell phone, and 3-4 gels.

Here here, sister! Bigger pockets!

enough support for the balls. I don’t need to go bowling on the run. And I think too many brand make the leg portion on the one piece suites too short. It could be just me but I prefer them a little longer. Not too much color, just a good simple design without too many logos all over the place, I refuse to be a billboard.

-Arm openings that are a bit higher so as not to chafe.
-Tri tops that extend down just below the top of the shorts…I hate seeing the inch of stomach in my finish pictures.
-Why do tri tops only have two pockets? Why not a third pocket at the center of the small of the back?
-Perhaps an integrated number belt system, with velco. Snap the number onto the shorts after the swim, then onto the front during the run.
-Full zip tri tops.

  • Full-zip tops.
  • Pockets in the BACK, not the side.
  • Tops that are long enough to cover the gap.
  • Tops that won’t gap at the waist if they fit the pecs (more taper).
  • Chamois’ that extend far enough up the front to offer a little modesty.
  • Grippers on the legs.
  • Leg lengths that give a choice of 6" or less as well as standard bike-shorts length.

I never wear tri shorts…they never fit. I end up wearing a pair of TYR or Speedo racing Jammers. I like the compression feel, the length on the legs and that the waist isn’t above my belly button. Not to mention they are great material during a non-wetsuit swim. Make a pair of tri shorts that fit that description and i’ll try those!

Yes, yes!

Tight built in bras. BIG pockets, and enough length in the back so I don’t have that ugle strip of sunburn when I get back from all my long rides. I think I’m permanently tanned in a 1 inch strip on my back. It’s like my cycling tatoo.

I would second some of what was said here about shorts. What is with so many shorts, especially “long distance” shorts being so damn long. I like Desoto shorts just for this reason. I also agree with full zip tops and shorts that have enough support in the front to keep things in place.

More companies selling women’s one-piece racing suits with a bikini bottom, chamois, and zippable mesh back pockets.

a white one-piece tri suit…please please please make an all white suit (that isn’t transparent when wet…is that possible???)…two small pockets in the small of the back, make the elastic tight so the pockets sit flush if empty…needless to say zip-up front, sternum length is fine…do you want my credit card details?

Thanks for all the answers.

I´m not working at the company, i´m an active triathlete myself and my job is to test and evaluate different clothes. Since i´m a guy i think they have to find a woman to try and give feed back on women´s clothing, but i will send your requests to the company.

Since it´s a swedish company i don´t think you will see the products in the US market…but who knows.

Hey, I LIKE that tan strip. I call it my “soul patch.”

I’d love to see a tri top in a sleeved version or 3/4 sleeved version (white material if possible). Desoto used to have 3/4 in sleeves in their skinsuit and it was nice to not have the sun abusing my shoulders all the time or chafes on my underarms from the sleeveless seams.

Zoot must have read your mind… http://zootsports.com/products/2056.html
