“In one case, a pickup truck sued his HOA due to similar issues.”
This AI shit is getting crazy.

I loathe HOAs, but the dude has a three car garage. Clean out one bay and park his $100K vehicle in it. Why have $100 worth of junk sitting the garage and a nice vehicle sitting outside. Doesn’t make sense to me.
So dumb. The top three (and five of the top 10) best selling vehicles in the USA in 2022 are pickup trucks. It’s been that way for years and and the vast majority are not used for commercial purposes.
I think my HOA has a rule against commercial trucks being parked in the driveway but I think that’s fairly common. A “no pickup trucks in the driveway at all” rule is just ridiculous in this day and age.
I would think, based on what the lawyer was saying and also looking at the use of the vehicle, he can get by this because it does not necessarily look like a truck. Would this apply for a Suburban and the like? There is no way this truck looks worse than a Suburban, quite the opposite I would say.

HOA’s are horseshit. I’m going to steal a windy and just toss in a “comrade”, cause most of those orgs remind me of some communist China surveillance state bullcrap.
I wanted a shorter commute, but it wasn’t a deal breaker, but the HOA was when I got a different job some 7 years ago. HOA was a bunch of Chinese surveillance state assholes lurking about the hood hiding from behind bushes taking pictures and video of stuff you couldn’t notice from even 30 feet away.
It just got to be way way way too much, especially living within eyesight of the clubhouse and a couple housed down from the HOA prez. Fucker can rot in hell.

Depends. Many garage bays are not deep enough to park a full size pickup truck. Mine isn’t.
Not saying that’s the case here but my F150 at 232" long doesn’t fit in the single deep bay of my garage. The Rivian is about 15" shorter.
Freeedom!
Pickups have basically become the soccerdad vehicle.
Minivans used to be the soccermom vehicle but minivans are passe now so soccermoms have moved over to SUVs. So now SUVs are the soccermom vehicle and dudes are like, shit… I need to get a big 4 door pickup.
Most pickups these days are never used for hauling stuff. They are practically luxury vehicles.

Agree with this. One of my former homes was in a gated neighborhood with an old bitty that all she did was try to make every other person in the neighborhood miserable with enforcing these stupid rules.
Had a strong storm take down two of the trees in my front yard ( these were old huge trees several feet in diameter). Under the HOA we were required to put two trees back in the front yard and they had to be of a certain diameter when planted. I just called a friend who owned a landscape company and he gave me two nice trees, but we didn’t measure them. The old bitty sent someone over to measure them and the trunks were a half inch two small. They sent me a letter saying I had to dig them up and put in bigger ones. I told them to politely fuck off.
As it goes with HOA’s I was on the losing end so I racked up over 10K in fees that year. I sold the house at the end of the year and after I negotiated the price with the new buyer, I told him he would have to add another 10k to pay the HOA fines I had racked up. He wasn’t pleased but it was a very sought-after home and 10K was a small nuisance in regard to the overall price. Got out of it without it costing me anything but was a pain to deal with.

Not to derail the thread but do you regret not waiting for the Bronco?

Not at all. The pickup is much more utilitarian for my purposes of schlepping around kayaks and paddleboards.
In the states where I have lived, HOA rules are filed in the country recorder’s office, along with the deed and description of the property. The deed says that our property is bound by HOA covenants. When you buy the property, there is no reason to be unfamiliar with the rules.
HOA rules have benefits and burdens. I have a hard time with people purchasing a house subject to rules, accepting all the benefits of the rules, and they crying about a burden from the rules.
If the rules discriminate illegally, I can understand complaints. If the rules are unfair (trucks are okay but no rv’s), that’s a petty issue to be resolved by the neighbors. I don’t know why it’s newsworthy.

Given the entire HOA is “no trucks” I’d imagine the builder made sure to build the garages big enough for a truck. My truck doesn’t fit in my garage either, but then I bought an “old used” house. My Challenger just barely fits in it.

The Rivian is more on par with a Ford Ranger or Nissan Frontier than a F150. It is shorter, not as wide, and sits lower to the ground. From the picture in the post, his Rivian could easily fit into his garage.
I think the dude probably has a meth lab in his garage (being Florida and all), so doesn’t want to be opening and closing his garage door.

either a meth lab or he houses venomous snakes in there. Ever notice how every youtube guy that makes venomous snake content lives in Florida?

Commercial vehicle rules are not an HOA thing only.
On Long Island there is a law prohibiting commercial vehicles being parked in view of the street overnight. I’m not sure how commercial vehicle is defined, but a van with a ladder and a name on the side is a violation. A big truck with commercial plates and no other markings isn’t. This time of year I start seeing pickup trucks with plows mounted parked in driveways with no issues. There is a guy down the block who is an elevator inspector who drives his truck home. It has commercial plates and the name on the door but nothing else to indicate a work vehicle. It, or a variation, has parked in the same place for 20 years with no problem.
A little common sense applying the rules goes a long way.

The fact that these garages can’t fit trucks might say more about the ridiculous size of trucks we’ve got in use in residential areas than anything else.

But are you in a HOA with silly rules? Those houses would have terrible resale if you can’t own a truck.
