I was out riding with Andy this morning, when a large pack of roadies passed us. One of them passed me pulled up in front of me and spat - throwing most of it in my face. Then he rode off. I unleashed a (somewhat) mild string of expletives at him, but he ignored me.
Had I not been riding with Andy, I’d have chased him down, knocked him off his bike, and given him the beating of his life with my trusty Zefal HPX. Like I care that there were around 20 of them.
I don’t blame roadies here - any asshole could have done it. But DAMN… That motherfucker’s got some BAD karma headed his way.

I agree. You should have ridden him down and beaten him senseless.
What do you do with your grudges? I don’t know this guy, and wouldn’t recognize him if I met him an hour from now - I hold no grudge. I do have, however, an itchy fist though…
I would not call that “close to getting into a fight”, but I can relate to the situation. IMO, getting spat on is worse than getting punched in the face. Having someone talk down to you is worse than having them kick you in the ribs. It is very hard for me to tolerate that. I try to do my best b/c it is what my religion teaches … but man, it goes against every fiber of my athletic/competitive being.
In your situation today, I would have seen nothing wrong, and even found it commendable, if you would have ridden up to the guy and explained to him that he spat on you and that you did not appreciate it. IMO, there is nothing wrong with standing up for one’s self in that type of fashion. How the roadie handles it is out of your control. If he wants to apologize … great. If he wants to be a jackass because he has numbers, then that’s on him. It’s been my experience that, at some time, every tough guy in a crowd gets caught solo … and well, “bad karma” kicks in.
What goes around, comes around. I have seen very few instances in life where that was not true.
Actually, I had no idea it had happened until after the pack passes us and Khai told me. With that headwind, if I had chased them down, I’d have blown my legs for my run …
I NEVER let someone control my emotions, I keep myself in check all the time and choose to walk away from ALL confrontation, its not worth it.
Like you said you could be in jail or worse you could have killed they guy with one punch to the face for spitting on you, its not worth it to ruin your life over something like that.
Just kill them with kindness and walk away, live to cycle another day.
Several years ago I was looking for an ASP (http://www.officerstore.com/store/product.cfm?pID=2327) to carry - strictly as a mens of self defence. In the end, I decided not to purchase one as having it would only encourage me to use it. I’m rash enough - I don’t need to be armed as well. It’s just too easy to maim/cripple/kill with one of those (or any weapon, for that matter).
Pretty obvious your a slow bike rider, why don’t you try training a little bit instead of spending all of your time on the internet. Then people might not be passing you, you will b passing them.
