HRM for a TRI-Newbie

Just got into triathlons and love the the exhiliration and fitness. I just bought a Forerunner 305 and love it but just realized that it can’t be used for swimming. Great tool for running and recording data. Please offer me some advice on buying a HRM which records 3 laps their times and average and max heart rate for each of those laps. Must be water proof and I would like a HRM that is designed so that when I hit one lap button it does the time split and records HR info for that lap.

Ideally I hit the start button, finish swim hit lap button, finish the bike hit the lap button, finish run hit the button and I can later download all this info. While I’m using it all I need to see is current heart rate. Would also like a watch with 24 hour clock and alarm (dual time would be a plus). Price does not matter. I have read your forum and have learned quite a bit. Just got told about this slowtwitch website and I love your forum. Thanks in advance. Regards Butch

Any high end Polar (i.e. 625, 720, etc.). Waterproof. Customizable display (i.e. multiple options for what gets shown where.) Records everything you are asking for and probably a bunch more that you didn’t.

I thought the new 305 was waterproof, it just didn’t talk to the satelites to give you distance and speed while under water. The Garmin website claims that its waterproof standard is 30 minutes of submersion in water up to a meter deep. I would think that you could swim with that since most people don’t reach down a meter deep and you pull your hand out of the water every stroke.

The RS100 will work fine, start from there. You can find them for The sealed T31 coded belt will also be at home in the water. Work your way up from there.
